George Strait Is Still The Man...

If you didn't watch the Country Music Awards last night, then you really missed The Awards Show of The Year. Although many of Country's best performers were there, there was also a marked infiltration by some rock & roll greats. There were names like Robert Plant, Hootie from Hootie & The Blowfish, The Eagles and Kid Rock. There was also a sprinkling of actors and actresses like Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Everyone seemed more polished in their attire and the lyrics to their songs seem more sophisticated than in the old days.

However, you get them up there on stage to give or receive an award, you sure know who's real country and who isn't. No matter how famous or how wealthy. You just can't change some things. And that is actually a very good thing. There's nothing I enjoy more than a good southern accent, no matter what part of the south they come from.

I've always adored George Strait's music and I'm proud to say that I have a lot of it. When he gets up and grins that big grin and then speaks... well, my heart simply melts like a Hershey Bar left in the sun. It would crack me up if someone like George spoke with a Brooklyn accent. Of course, tonight George won Album of The Year for "Troubadour", but he was up against some of Country Music's heaviest hitters. Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and others.

My very favorite American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood won the CMA for Female Vocalist of The Year, but I liked them all. Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Allison Krause and Miranda Lambert. I could look this good too, if they shot me with cheesecloth or something over the lense. And made it a far away shot... with cheesecloth. Oh, and I cried all the way through her song "Just A Dream".

I did notice something I thought was rather strange. The absence of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. It seems to me that ever since Carrie Underwood won her first year (beating out Faith Hill) and Faith clearly expected to win, we don't seem to be hearing much from her. Perhaps this could be why. Somehow, I know the feeling all too well. I believe it is referred to as Showing One's Bootay For All The World To See. At which I am a well versed veteran.

Since I grew up in Nashville, I was always embarrassed by country music. But now it is so sexy! I missed the show last night. I saw some clips, though. Didn't Shania look beautiful? My brother and his wife are good friends with Faith and Tim. They are as nice as they seem;)

Shania looked absolutely amazing...

Shania looked beautiful, because SHE IS beautiful...trust me..I have seen her up close and personal.

Now, as for KING GEORGE...there are no words...the man is all things cool, country and classy...always has been always will be. HE should run for Governor, lol..or PRESIDENT!!!

I never have been a Tim fan. Professionally or personally. His hat is all wrong (in my humble cowgirl opinion, but, hey, I judge a man by his hat)...I won't contradict what Mental Pause Momma said about them being nice people,

I grew up with Country music and worked in the industry for a long time. I have never been embarrassed by any of it. I am proud to say it is part my cowgirl/Texas heritage but I do understand it's not for everyone. It has changed immensely over the past 20 years. For the most part, it has become too progressive for me. I am a fan of tradtional country music, which is why George appeals to so myself and so many people, because he keeps it real. There are MANY reasons WHY artists don't show up. Making an @$$ of oneself publicly over someone as nice as Carrie Underwood could be one of them.

The CMAs are voted on by the industry not the fans...

Carrie deserved her nomination as well as her big win...

Yes, I will never forget that youtube video of Faith going totally bollistic over not winning. Carrie had idolized her. Well... until that show anyway. Carrie is now one of my favorites.

Exactly the same reason I love Reba & George and so many others. She too, mostly keeps it real and her concerts are amazing. I still love the movie George did. Pure Country. It's one of my faves.

It seems George is one of the only big winners that really works at keeping it traditional. I mean, I am crazy about Suzy Bogguss, who had a new CD out early this year and there was no mention of her whatsoever. Probably because her last two CD's have been traditional country & not big cash cows. But there are a lot of artists out there who are still trying to stick with true country music. You just never hear much about them. Hell, I still love Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys.

But I still love Rock & Roll and The Blues too.

I had forgotten all about Faith showing her bootay! How embarrassing for her. We all know that feeling.

I absolutely love George Strait. In the early 90's, the company I worked for transferred me to Raleigh NC. I moved there without knowing anyone. poor me, all alone in a strange place...anyway, it was right before Pure Country came out. I went to see it the first day. It made me so homesick, I cried through the whole movie. Even now, my cell phone ringtone is "I Can't See Texas From Here".

I thought last night's CMA's were the best I've seen in a while. Brad Paisley is a very likable guy.

I will have to try to catch the re-run on CMT... had my nose in a book for the last um.... 5 days now. Almost done with the last book. (sigh)

I love everyone you mentioned and George's video of Troubadour is awesome!

Brad Paisley is a likable guy but his singing voice is not as good as George Strait and Keith Urban's voice are. I think one of them should have won Male Vocalist. And Trace Adkins and JoshTurner are good and neither one of them were even nominated for Male Vocalist. Candie

Agreed. I've never cared for Brad Paisley and I noticed there were a lot of people not nominated who should have been.

So, I think it's the OTHER country music awards show that I really like. There is another one, right?

George just gets better with time. A couple of years ago I went to see him in OKC, he did a "concert in the round" - and we would scream hysterically when he turned his back to us (he looks very, very good on both sides, hee hee)....

Yep just like fine wine George gets better with time. I have seen George in concert six times and it is never the same show. George is the man!
