I Admit It.... I Have A Terrible Addiction

Yes, it's all true. I have a terrible addiction. I am addicted to the internet. I am so addicted that when it goes *down*, I tend to get somewhat hysterical. Especially when it goes down for two out of three days. All Day. There was another twist as well. Since we have our ground phone, TV, and internet with this company, I guess it was bound to happen. The TV went down on Game Day Sunday, which made Mr. Snoots a bit anxious as well.

On Sunday I was able to leave a few comments on blogs before my computer went dead on me. When I called the Internet Provider they, of course, denied that there was any problem in our area. Why do they always do that? I tried explaining to this faceless person that I had an addiction and I was approaching full blown withdrawl symptoms. Did she care? Of course not. She instructed me to do all these different things, none of which did a damn bit of good. I could tell she was trying to placate me, which made me want to pinch her. I guess it was a good thing we were conversing over the phone.

She then had the audacity to suggest it was our router (all the internet companies say this during an outage), when they know full well that it has nothing to do with our router. Never has. Never will. We get the same cable guy every time and he always tells me that's a bunch of baloney. (I love this guy!)

So, yesterday I go through the same rigmarole. I get a few comments made on blogs and the internet connection went dead. Again. Fine. I didn't even bother to call them. It was down ALL DAY until just before 5:00 PM. Needless to say, I got a huge amount of work done around here. You know. Things that have been neglected since I took up my new addiction to blogging. I even managed to get the lighted garland hung outside.

After Mr. Snoots got home, he went to our son's old room to get on our laptop and my internet quit working in the den, on my computer. WTH? Then I get a little pop-up message that says there is a conflict with two computers using internet at the same time. WTF? This is not good.

Both of my kids will be home soon, with their computers. Which means they will both want to be using their computers, the same as I'll be wanting to use mine. I'm not willing to share my computer during the holidays or any other time, thank you. So, it looks like I'm going to have to call the company again and go through the whole thing with them again....

I sure did get a lot done around here though. Which leaves me wondering what my life was like before computers. Well, my house was undoubtedly cleaner, that's for sure.

Oh ick. I hope this gets resolved ASAP. That's an ugly thought, being without internets.

OMG - life before internet? I barely remember. I started surfing in 1991. Gah.

The lights look lovely. And perhaps it is the internet carrier... but it also could be the router. Especially if it's kicking you off if 2 people are online at the same time... sounds like a router issue to me, not internet. Is Snooty Son or Daughter techie?

My parents have the same problem. It drives me to drink (more). BTW, the garland looks lovely Martha!

I'm so with you on the addiction. I think I'm going to have to give up "All My Children" because of blogging. AMC is my dirty little secret, but it helps pull me off the computer and get the laundry and ironing done. I can go through a week's worth of episodes and everyone has clean clothes again. Win, win all around.

Current list of addictions: golf, blogging, white wine, AMC, ironing...it could be worse.

When you figure out a cure for this addiction, please let me know. I need to join the rehab group too!

The lights look good!

So. When you decide to start a local chapter of BA (Bloggers Anonymous) I'll go with you.

But I'm only gonna tell you my first name.

I wish computers would go away. I miss the good ol' days.

I hate it when my internet goes down. What did I do before I could shop on line? How did I get my christmas shopping done?

I'm the same way - what did we ever do before the internet - played more golf?

I'm not sure if the internet has made us any smarter, but it's for sure left all of us with lots of useful information if you're in a trivia game. Hope you get that fixed soon! And, Merry Christmas!

I feel your pain. I live in a rural area and only get dial up access (unless I run in to the library or other hot spot in town). My problem isn't that it goes down (although it has twice in the past months) but that the power goes out. Only about an hour on battery before I'm toast.

We've had 5 power outages in the past 4 weeks ranging from 4 to 20 hours.

Sigh. At least I can go out and shovel the snow out of the driveway -- again.

Shalom

If you have a router, then there shouldn't be a conflict with both computers being online at the same time. I would get your dude back out there!

Being internets deprived may produce a cleaner home but think of how much happier you are NOT cleaning .. Hope you get back up and running soon

The cleaning thing is a Catch 22. I hate it when the house is dirty... well, since the kids left home anyway. Yet, I don't want to be the one to do the cleaning, lol. The weekly maid is like a weekly Band-Aid, merely scratching the surface. Still, I'd rather do the internet.

Anonymous: I sometimes feel the same way. If all the computers disappeared tomorrow, meaning no one would have them, could we go back to life as it was? Somehow, I doubt it...
