More Computer Woes... I Think Our Computer Guru Is Hiding Out

This morning Malware found THREE more viruses and I'm about to go insane. I'm staying off the computer as much as possible, so I have no idea how the viruses are getting in. Aaaaaargh!

To make matters worse, our Computer Guru STILL hasn't been here. I think he's hiding from us. I think this whole ordeal has become as overwhelming for him as it is for us. That, or he had the audacity to take a vacation just when I needed him most. This is so frustrating!

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't slid off the face of the earth. Yet. I'm catching up on reading everyone's posts, but really trying to stay off until the little shit sweet, wonderful Computer Guru gets himself over here. Paul... Where Are You??? I'm approaching a point of complete and total desperation.

Please pray for my sanity.... it's slipping away.

Dede had some very nasty & persistent crud on her PC recently and we used Malwarebytes to clean it up. It was easy to use and tackled the problem entirely - something that 2 other common anti-spyware apps had failed to do. Give it a shot!

I also highly recommend CCleaner after that to eliminate orphaned junk files & Registry entries. You'll be amazed at how much needless junk CCleaner will root out and get rid of. In some cases, it can make a real difference in how your PC performs.

Note that CCleaner comes bundled with the Yahoo! toolbar. During the install, I advise that you deselect the default option to install the Yahoo! toolbar.

Both of these are very dummyproof apps (which translates to "if I can run 'em, anybody can") that you can use yourself without any fear of breaking or damaging anything. No techie dude required. And of course you're always welcome to gimme a shout if you need a little over-the-phone handholding.

Computer woes are horrid! Especially for someone like me who has no idea what to do when they act up. A screaming toddler I can handle; a problem computer, not so much!

Golfing Daughter's computer is acting up too and it's my home base while on vacation. Help! Good luck to you.

Snooty, I had some junk on my computer...and the only way I was ultimately able to get rid of it was by running the above mentioned MalwareBytes with the computer in safe mode (some of those viruses hide behind a fully started windows)

I was hoping your silence meant you were moving into that gorgeous townhome!

Our Geek team at work also suggested Malwarebytes and I used it for about an hour tonight with another program...these are some scary times.

Hang in there...we are praying for you.

How hideous! I think I'd curl into the fetal position and sob if I couldn't use my computer!

Gah! I'm still shaking just from having spotty internet connections lingering around after the snow storm.

I don't think I'd survive something happening to my computer!

I am going to throw in that in addition to Malwarebytes and CCleaner, also get Spybot Search and Destroy and Windows Defender. Both are free. AVG Free is a good anti-virus as well.

About a month ago I went to a blog to read a post .. and got a virus which took over the computer .. we (IT and I) put in Spybot software and let it clean up .. it did but that lasted maybe a day .. it was back .. apparently it doesnt die easily and in the end I had to get a new hard drive here at the office .. the virus that I got was one where it morphs as it lingers and even when cleaned out it leaves vestiges behind which then do the same destructive stuff ... AND what is to me the worst part is that it pretends to be your virus software and tells you to do a scan .. of course if you it infects the hard drive all over again.

The virus that I picked up on a blog was a blog with ads .. yup the spyware/virus was in the ads .. I told the blogger about it and explained that while I like her and her blog, I wasnt going to be visiting again

I hope you didnt get this crap from one of the ads on your's.
