Perhaps No News Is Good News Today...

Since the 10:00 PM news came on tonight, I've been through a myriad of emotions after having already taken that ride after the national news was done. The AIG thing is … Well, I won't talk about it.

Then, our local news reported that anonymous calls had been made to our city police and the police in our neighboring town (20 miles away) stating that women should stay away from all of the Wal-Marts. It was stated the reason was reportedly that 3 women were going to be killed at one of them as a gang initiation. Whether or not this is true, do you think I'll be going anywhere near any of them? I avoid Wal-Mart at all costs anyway, but it still gives me a creepy crawly feeling up & down my spine. Holy Crap! I might not leave the house for weeks, now.

Last, I was saddened to hear that Natasha Richardson (of the newer 'Parent Trap' fame, but did many wonderful films & stage productions) has died from head injuries received during a snow skiing accident in Canada. The cause of death was not announced, but she had been hospitalized after suffering a devastating brain injury while skiing Monday.

If you want to read further you can click here. She was the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave and the wife of Liam Neeson. She will be missed.
I guess I won't ever be taking that dream skiing trip to The Bugaboos in Canada. I believe that window closed quite a while ago anyway. It probably closed away even before I left Aspen, which is where I left my bravado.

Very sad - and her poor children. Only 12 and 13, I think?

I concur with what you are feeling here. I just don't know how much more bad news I can stand.

Our evening news here in West Palm Beach reported tonight that the gang/Wal-Mart thing is a total hoax that actually started circulating a few years ago and pops up from time to time, so if you feel like it, get your Wal-Mart on!
The Natasha Richardson thing is so sad. For some reason, a week ago I ordered helmets for myself, my husband and son (we are going skiing in Colorado next week). It doesn't sound like her head hit the ground super hard, but I would have hoped a helmet might have helped.

Lots of weirdness lately...

I am sad Natasha didnt make it ... her younger son goes to school with my boss's son ... nice kid.

Beginners slopes are maybe more dangerous than the advanced ... soooo many skiers and possibility of warming sun melting snow and then as sun recedes melt turns to ice .. slick spots cause falls .. heads hit ice .. not a good thing. AND someone I know who knows hospitals said if they thought she'd survive they'd not have taken her to Lenox Hill ..

(((Snooty))) .. come to NYC and we'll shop .. it warmer in the shops than on the slopes and far less dangerous

It is so sad. I feel so sorry for those left behind who must move forward. So difficult.

It is so sad about Natasha. And I cannot even talk about AIG. But that Wal-Mart business is scary.

The Natasha story is just so awfully tragic.
And Wal-Mart, I go about every other day. That is scary.

ChiefChick: You'd think our local news stations would have already known it was a hoax BEFORE they reported it on the news. What can I say? Local Yokels...

Daryl: This really is the most dangerous time of year for skiing. Warm days cause the snow to get slushy & then it freezes overnight. This is when all ski areas should be doing a daily groom on the beginner's slopes as well as most of the intermediate before the lifts are even open. That said, I saw many beginners over the years get dragged down double black diamond runs by their friends, where they clearly should not be.

However, it won't be a problem for me this year since my ski area is all but closed due to no snow. Here is where you can see the web cam. I almost died when I looked at it last week...

My brother lives in Terrell, Tx & I asked him about the gang thing & he read a statement on MSNBC that they released saying that story was a hoax! Thank goodness! That's scary & just the kind of thing that IS believable! Horrible people to start something like that!

Many sad and depressing things going on the past couple of days...

To top it off at our house my son's g/f of 1.5 years broke up with him. We are all very sad, she was like one of the family.

The news is horrible, sad, scary and depressing...why do I keep watching?

After being in DC (with 2 babies) for 9/11 I decided to do two things:

1. Savor every moment with my family
2. Seriously cut my news consumption and drink more wine. (I guess that's 3 things)

I broke my rule and watched the news last night. I was so troubled by Natasha news that I had terrible nightmares. I actually woke up with tears running down my face. Never had that happen before.

ya know, this Wal Mart thing must have been country-wide, because there was a text message going around here where I am too. Thankfully, I havent heard that any of the threats came to fruition...though I can certainly understand WANTING to open fire in a Wal Mart. (I joke...sort of)

I hope you're in a better place now emotionally. It's been a draining week for everyone, it seems.

where are you these days? Do you want me to order your note card prize? I never got your info. Hope all is well and you're just out golfing!

That news made me sad too. It was strange feeling such a loss over someone I had never met.

Thank you for staying away from Walmart-- I wouldn't want you to be on the news for kicking some gang members arses!
