I Think I'm About To Have A Nervous Breakdown...

I feel like I'm on the verge of having a total nervous breakdown.

Right at the time we are about to leave for Las Vegas our son decided to drop the Big Bomb on us. That bomb being his Pit Bull Terrier, Deja.

It seems that he's found a new apartment across from campus that is $200.00 cheaper per month, than where he is right now. Of course, that's a good thing…. he can walk to classes, which will save him even more in gas money.

The problem is that the apartment managers won't allow Pit Bulls. They allow all other kinds of dogs, just not Pit Bulls. Which means he needs to find a home for her here in our town, otherwise he's going to have to take her back to Austin and give her to the Austin Pit Bull Rescue people.

First, he asked if we would take her and both of us blurted out "NO!" in grand unison. We've been down that road before, with his last Pit Bull. No thanks. Also, our cat Trouble has already been traumatized enough by this dog being here. We just want our lives to return to normal once he and the dog go home.

We leave TOMORROW for Las Vegas and he wants to stay here while he tries to find a home for Deja. I know this is mean, but I just want him to go back home, before we leave. That way, we will come home to a clean house just as we always do. If he stays here, there's no telling what we'll come home to. Filthy house? Dead cat? No food? Also, I haven't even begun packing yet because I've been busy cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry. This is making me crazy.

My brain is so scattered at the moment. And, I realize that I'm a terrible mother after all. So yes. I feel like I'm on the verge of having a full nervous breakdown.

I have to go pack now. Thanks for letting me rant, even though I don't feel any better.

I don't blame you for not wanting him there while you are gone. I am the same way. I want to come home and have my house in the exact condition that I left it.
Not that I ever go anywhere, but if I did.

Yes, I understand the need to come home to the clean house... and just the mess that other people generate in your space.

The Brute Squad gets traumatized when the oldest brings her Bassett Hounds over so I get the trauma too.

Have fun in Vegas!

Over the years the only pets my parents had were the ones her kids "gifted" her with.

Ugh. I'd be having a meltdown also. A doggie alone in the house, let along a pit bull -- there's nothing good about that. You're not being mean by putting your foot down, you're setting limits. Hopefully he can find a dog sitter or a kennel or something until he finds a new home for him.

Snooty--you're not a terrible mother. You have boundaries. This is good. I hope you have a nice trip;)

I feel for you. This seems a little like adding insult to injury after your "Mother's Day" trip to Vegas. You definitely ditched the bus, right? ;o)

Yeah it's not fair. Usually you have time to take pictures of all your outfits before you leave. We're being ripped off here! Stomping my feet.

Just went through the same thing, (sort of) my college daughter left me a stray cat that someone left her!! then went back to college and left me to find it a home. Where are their brains??? Well I found a lady that had a cattery what ever that is and gave it to her. (She has 40 others so what was one more) Enjoy your trip maybe you could accidentally lock him out before you leave I'm just saying.....

Snoots - I whole heartedly agree with you - this is your home and it's your right to say yea or nay to house guest of the blood relative or canine kind.

Enjoy Vegas. Gee, I get to go to Atlantic City on Monday. Not much of a comparison, but I'm going with my parents so it will be fun.

SO there. Seriously. My mom kept offering to watch the kids so that I could got to the store or the post, but I knew it meant my house would be totally destroyed when I got home and that's just wrong. Good luck with this, and really, you can vent email me anytime you want (you could call too, but that may be a little expensive).

Well, by now, I expect this is all resolved...or you're having a nervous breakdown on the plane on the way to Vegas.

Just so you know tho', have ever heard the old saying, 'failure to plan on your part, does not constitute and emergency on my part'? It seems like at least part of that applies here. Oh and also the one about 'when you're in my house, you go by my rules...'. I know, easy to say when you don't have kids.

Rest assured ... I'll be waiting for you with open arms at the side of the road after the breakdown. I'm not sure how I came un-hinged this week but it isn't pretty. I've gotta get that script refilled!
Happy Mother's Day!

I've been trying to catch up on my blog reading and found myself laughing hysterically, especially while reading the "hairy feet" post. Thanks for a great start to the day! You are NOT a terrible mother, you are a sensible one, so STOP feeling guilty.

Hope you are having a wonderful time in Vegas.

NO this is why you are a good Mother, he is an adult and needs to figure things out ahead, you had plans and pit bulls are unpredictable animals by nature so he should have thought about what he was going to do with the dog before he searched for a new apartment he should not have assumed that Mom and Dad would be the pet hotel.
Have a wonderful STRESS FREE time in Vegas. Happy Mother's Day!!!
