The Wind Caves Of My Mind.... I'll just Blame It On Global Warming

Today is another fun filled day here in West Texas, with winds that are strong enough to give you a facial peel if you have to get out in it. And frankly, I do need a bit of dry skin sloughing, but I'd rather have it done at a spa, thank you very much.

I mean, we've been waiting since before Thanksgiving for some warmer weather. In fact, I've been praying for it. The problem being that I failed to add the words *no wind* into that prayer. So, we have finally gotten temps up in the 60's, but along with it comes the gusting winds of up to 60 MPH. The same type winds that blew part of our former roof off the house and snapped a tree in half in the backyard. Oh. Yeah. I'm excited, can't you tell?

It can get pretty frightening sitting inside the house, hearing things crash and bang around outside. I don't even want to go look and see what is getting destroyed this time. Perhaps Mr. Wind can just give it to me all at once, when I'm prepared to deal with it. Which is like never.

After spending the entire last week packing things to go out to the storage unit, I drove out to said unit this morning and could barely even keep my car in one lane. And to the people who stared at me as if I were drunk at 9:00 AM I'd like to say, "Fine. You turds jerks all drive Ford F250 trucks, so of course you don't weave in this wind. It's all a matter of perspective. Duh. You have tons of truck weight under your fat asses big behinds, guzzling gas as only Texans can. I, on the other hand, did my part in becoming a little *greener* and now I drive a Toyota 4 Runner. So, conceivably, I might be having trouble staying in my lane due to the fact I don't drive a huge, heavy truck. Seems like a no-brainer to me, but go ahead and stare if you really must."

Anyhoo, as the wind continues to blow and gust, I can feel it making wind caves inside my brain as I write. Before too long, the old brain might even start whistling like the kitchen vents and the front door have been doing today. Yes, it sounds really creepy too. It also renders me unable to do much of anything besides physical labor without the presence of sharp knives or electrical tools of any kind. So, it's back to taking overdoses of allergy medications, snorting Afrin, and packing boxes for me, where I should be safe unless a tree falls over on the house.

I believe I'll just blame it all on Global Warning like all the politicians do..... Even if it was just a big fat fabrication of Al Gore's mind. It's still good for when I need something non-existent to blame things like the weather on. Or maybe I should just blame it all on Al Gore for putting the whole *Global Warming* idea into our heads in the first place. That seems like a much better solution. It's all Al's fault.

Oh, and you might be wondering why I'm packing up boxes when we haven't even got our house on the market yet. Well, according to several real estate websites, the less you have in your home, the easier it will be to sell. So, I'm removing basically half of everything in every single room in the house and stuffing as much as humanly possible into our rented storage unit. However, I'm worried that before I'm done I'm going to have to rent an additional storage unit in order to accommodate. You certainly can accumulate a lot of crap over a period of 24 years...

Hooray for you Snooty! I'm so proud of you! Yes, I totally agree, I too am a real estate agent, not too active at this point in time, but... you need to get rid of the stuff and make your home look pretty much like a model home.
I see a downsize townhouse in your future!

It's too easy to accumulate stuff when you've been in a house so long. That's why I believe everyone should be required to move every 10 years. That way you don't get a chance to get more stuff.

SJN & Cathy M: Hello. I've seen the light and am working with a purpose, seriously. I just let life get in the way for so long that I sort of lost my way. Also, it's hard when your hubby believes that you should live in the same house forever, like his parents did. Uh-Huh.

I was out in this stupid wind all day. Why is it on this kind of day I have so much to do and it all is in the car, in a store, in the car, in a store. I have great planing skills, sit home on nice day's and run my butt of when the wind in howling.

Dee: I had to laugh (sorry) because lately it's been that way for me too. I'm home packing all day when it's pretty outside & then decide to run all of my errands on days like this. Gah!

We absolutely need to do exactly what you're doing. We live in a massive house and it's full of stuff. You've inspired me to take action. I'm starting tomorrow, one room a day!!! Thanks Snooty.

I'd be happy if I could take a closet a day—and we've only been here 5 years. But in those 5 years we've done some major remodeling.

I'm redoing Golfing Daughter's room right now. Painting today. She is abandoning the Princess Palace it used to be and opting for a cool teenage hideaway.

BTW I hate the winds. Very scary. We lost a MASSIVE poplar tree in D.C. in hurricane Isabel. Fortunately it fell across three back yards rather than toward our house. Our new house is surrounding by beautiful evergreens, but no massive poplar trees that could fall on it.

I hope the wind dies down soon for you. I can deal with a lot of weather but I hate wind. I agree with packing up the house. We did that when we moved, leaving only the bare necessities and the home showed so much better. It sold in less than a week! Good luck with the house~

Less is always the case when selling a house. We went through this the end of 2007. Good luck with your venture.

And yes, let's all back each other up regarding less of each one of us!

I'd be happy if our temps would go above 32. Just so you feel like you're not alone it's frickin windy here too ... which makes 25 feel like zero. I'm pretty sure my family will have to eat crumbs all weekend or until the wind stops because I am NOT going out in this crap.

We've been dealing with some windy weather here too and I feel the same way about it as you do!

Good luck with all the purging and packing.

Thanks to everyone! I think hubby now sees/understands the need to purge is important. Less really is more!

BWAHAHAHAHA...based strictly on this post, I can say without qualification that I just love ya! I laughed...and laughed...and now I'm still laughing. The shoulder-roll kind. I do not have a clue what your real name even is, but I know you ARE my sistah from anotha motha...

The Texans in the trucks...BWAHA!...the wind caves of your mind...BWAHA! And blaming Al Gore for the "global warming" thing...you bet! But then I forgave Al because he DID invent the internets. And I love me some internets! :)

Okay, I had to do another comment because it appears I missed the whole point of your post in my first comment.

Cheers to you for the cleaning out of the house. I have given thought to shoveling mine out, but that's as far as I've gotten. I'm coming here every day for inspiration...but then I'll get sidetracked and it still won't get done. As the saying goes, "GAH!"

I will understand if you block me from commenting. :)

I downsized about a year and a half ago. I love living in a smaller place. The crap I got rid of blew my mind!

Actually global warming is a fact. Not a fabrication.

I sure hope the storm we just had misses you. It was brutal.

Hugs!!

Yikes, that wind does not sound like fun! Stay inside until it blows over! The rented storage unit was a great idea!

I guess that's one of the perks of moving every two years... I can't imagine what my house would be like if I was allowed to collect for 24 years :-) The real estate people are right-- even seeing family photos all over the walls makes it hard to envision the home as your own.
Hang on with the wind (son lost his internet last night right in the middle of our skype call) and
good luck with the boxing Snooty!

I was actually visiting a house the other day and it was on the market. When I tell you it was clean and tidy I am not kidding. To me it looked kinda bare but I guess that is the perfect look for selling. Lord help me if I ever move, I might need a dumptruck. Where oh where does all the stuff come from. Good Luck to you.
