Grinding My Teeth Got Me Another Magic Carpet Ride In The Dentist's Chair....

By the time you are reading this I'll be over all the pain, but I had yet another tooth pulled today. My dearly beloved dentist (for 30 years) warned me this day was coming during my last visit. As usual, he was sadly right. As usual, I reverted to my Scarlett O'Hara mentality. I decided to worry about it tomorrow. That tomorrow came today. Can we have a collective "Ouch!" here?

And let me just say that it knocked me over the loop this time. It's also the first time that I've had a bruised & swollen area around the tooth. Wah! I guess he forgot about me being the world's biggest baby, whiner, wimp. Call it what you want but I felt every single bit of that first yank. Then I screamed bloody murder cried out in horror. Yup, I am a huge baby when it comes to any kind of bodily pain, but especially my teeth. I nearly came out of my skin! I was rewarded with more needles filled with Novacaine. Double "Ouch!"

Then he promptly glued it in with one of his special concoctions and it worked like a charm. It's my 4th tooth to be pulled and glued back in and I'm not proud of that. Each time he had to perform this procedure he warned me that eventually he won't be able to glue in any more teeth. Today was that day. He glued in the last tooth that he could (the 2nd canine) and referred me to the oral surgeon who will be taking over the helm of the ship that will be the source of excruciating pain from here on out. Of course, I'll still be visiting my regular dentist occasionally but he's patched me back together as many times as he can. Honestly, I'm here licking my wounds (literally) as I write.

Once I was sufficiently numbed things went along much easier. However, I need to understand why he always asks me so many questions when I can't speak. Then he started talking to me about what's next on my *let's-have-fun-with-the-dentist* list. Implants (not the silicone breast kind I assure you). Oh Yeah! Anxiety ensued. Now, I'm talking like a drunk with a dead lip and I just accidentally drooled down the front of my shirt...

Oh the joys of aging! It just keeps getting better all the time....

Cringing here. Not a fan of the dentist. And yeah! Why do they ask all those questions when your mouth is full of cotton, fingers, and that darn vacuum hose?

I have never heard of the tooth gluing either. But I'm all too familiar with the implant scenario... and the scarlet o'hara attitude as well. I'm currently fooling myself that my tooth clenching has not broken one of my teeth... and I'm too chicken to check!

This too shall pass?

Without going into too much gorry detail, the dentist just pulls the tooth and with some of his special chemicals, he makes his own glue. I've had the other teeth glued in for at least 10 years & never had any trouble. BUT, this is all because of my grinding. When I get stressed out, I grind my teeth and my ulcers flare up. I've been really stressed lately because I discovered our son is *using* again. He's been home for the last few days and left this morning after he & I had a huge fight last night. I just don't know if I can go through all this again... It's breaking my heart into a million pieces.

Oh Dear ~ I hope your mouth feels better soon and you can de-stress a little. The news of your son is heartbreaking and frustrating. I'm not going to even pretend to know what you are going through but I am here to support you 100%. Hugs to you.
