This Is How We Roll For Fund Raisers In West Texas....

Night before last our best friends hosted a table at a local fund raiser called Gourmet Midland, benefiting Meals On Wheels, which is what it was all about, of course. However, the theme was *Run For The Roses* and the Kentucky Derby. It was really fun even though the food resembled something more like fast food. I have to admit the desserts were divine. Still, it was all about the fund raising and not about us.

However, let me tell you a little bit about the other guests at our table... In this picture you'll see an Italian woman (one of my favorite people), a prominent local attorney (her partner), a man whose father started a minor league baseball team here years ago (who we shared box seats with at the games for many years) as well as starting the Jazz Society here. His father was one of my favorite people in the world and when he passed away, his funeral was truly the best funeral I've ever attended. Jazz artists from all over the world came and played for the service and it was amazing. He (the son) is also a popular local dentist and his wife is an outstanding local attorney. There is also a concert piano teacher and her hubby (who is a Football Hall Of Fame inductee that once played football for OU and then the St. Louis Cardinals) who is now an oilman like his father before him. Last but not least, the wife-half of our best friends and one of my favorite people in the world. Her hubby and Mr. Snoots were on yet another food run. Since we ladies preferred to socialize, they ran around and delivered food to us, which wasn't a bad deal at all.

Then, our friend *D* went up onstage with the band and played a couple of songs, which was great fun. We never, ever tire of hearing him play guitar and sing. Afterward we all gathered over at their new house to assess the guest house and garage damage, which is horrible. The funny thing is that when I arrived at the front gate I noticed the intercom was melted but decided to try the button anyway and it still worked. How crazy is that?

So far, they haven't been able to touch anything in the fire area until the investigation is finished, but that should be soon. I peeked in the guest house to look and although not everything was completely ruined, the poor floor cloth was history. Caput. D.O.A. I had to walk away before I started crying and added to their depression....

Looks like a great way to raise money. I can't believe the intercom still worked. That's amazing.

You all sure know how to throw a bash! Looks like a great time! I can only imagine how heartbreaking it was too look at all the fire damage.
