What A Crazy Week This Has Been.....

First of all, our paid-by-the-hour house painter is still driving me nuts. The scary part is that I'm getting used to it so that it doesn't bother me so much now. I'm not sure if that means I'm becoming more tolerant or I'm teetering on the edge of insanity.

Last week the painter told me that I'd accidentally bought interior paint instead of exterior. Indeed, he was right. However, since the paint department head at Home Depot has (unknowingly) become my new best friend, I knew she'd right the wrong, and she did. It was, after all, her mistake. However, I can't seem to go to Home Depot for just one thing. While I wait for paint to be mixed, I wander around the store and end up buying other things I think we need. Lots of other things.

Anyhoo, I finally got that potential disaster taken care of and then received a call from my San Antonio friend (SAF), telling me that a close male friend of ours had died. At this point, I was overwhelmed with sadness and the week was really starting to suck. Although he had been living in San Antonio, he was originally from here, so the funeral was to be here, on Saturday. Therefore, my SAF and her hubby would be coming for the funeral and I needed to make things ready for them to stay with us.

Then, my housekeeper's daughter-in-law called to say she was sick and couldn't come last week, so I had to get it in gear and do all of the cleaning myself, which didn't make me happy at all. But, I did get the job done, albeit I was too tired to even move after that. Mopping floors absolutely destroys my back, as does vacuuming.

So, my friends came in on Saturday and we all attended the funeral of our friend, together. Many tears were shed and even more stories were told about our friend who had passed. He had been quite the character, but also a wonderful husband and devoted father of three lovely adult daughters. I still can't get it into my head that he's gone. Every single time I went to San Antonio he would always drop by to see me if he was in town. I'm really going to miss that part of my SA trips and I'm really going to miss my friend. He had actually known my mother and always told me that I turned out amazingly well for having been raised by the Brown Recluse. I just loved him for that.

After my SA friends left on Sunday I desperately needed something to do, so of course, I grabbed my can of spray paint and decided to paint the coffee filter wreath I'd made this last spring. Over the summer the wreath had gotten filthy, no matter how many times I put the vacuum to it. So, I appropriately painted the wreath black, making it our new Halloween wreath. I also went ahead and painted the old wrought iron bench on the front porch, and it looks better too.

Hmmmm.... I wonder what else I can improve with spray paint? Well, how about pumpkins? So, I did. Spray. Paint. Them. They look amazing on the front porch and in the house. Why didn't I ever think of doing this before? I also started a new furniture project that I'll show you toward the end of this week. Everything takes time, my lovelies!

These pumpkins are located approximately 20 feet from the carport and this area still awaits painting. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... I put black upholstery tacks in the lighter colored pumpkin and love the way it looks!

Sorry about your friend. You found an outlet for your grief, your entryway looks great. I like the silver pumpkin, good idea.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like he was a great one. Love the pumpkins, especially the one with the black tacks. Who would have thought? (answer) Ms. Creativity, of course! I'm going to remember this little trick come next year. We're busy planning a trip so I'm not going to decorate for Halloween this year. By the way, Hubby made some of your chow chow. YUM!

Cathy: I'd been seeing a lot of pumpkin spraying on the decorating blogs & then realized they had bought the fake pumpkins at Hobby Lobby, LOL! Had I remembered that, I could keep them forever. Oh well.

Roan: OMG! That's the first time anyone has ever said they made my recipe! I'm so glad it turned out good because my recipes aren't always easy to follow since I fly by the seat of my pants in cooking.

That painter? I need to have a chat with him. And I am so sorry about your friend, but I always take heart in these great send-offs. Hope I can have one like that. But back to the painter...you have to buy the paint???? Do I need to come down there?

I am so sorry about your friend. Those friends that know all the good, the bad, and the ugly but love us anyway are absolutely the best!

The scary part is that your sorely missed friend is OUR age! THAT's what hits home the hardest as I feel older each day...;( But I love how you keep yourself busy with your newly found talents! Love what you have done so far! My ex used to say that he'd better not sit too long or I'd spray paint him...so I know what you mean about being hooked.
Love the silver pumpkins! Brings the focal point to the decor. Loved the tack idea and your placement of them! Great re-vamp of the wreath too.
Meant to add in other post, that your "Spray Paint Warrior" outfit would make a great costume for Halloween...:}
Keep up the great decorating!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend Snooty :-( We lost someone this week and I know what it does to your head. It's like you just can't focus on anything and everything you do, touch or see makes you think about how they won't be doing that :-( I am really sorry.

I love that you're painting your way through your grief. I can just see you standing there with a can of paint saying, "Who's next?" :-)

BTW, since I'm a little late on commenting on your post, it has made me right on time to say:

HaPpY BirThDaY my friend!! xx
