This was my recent email from Snooty Daughter. She is such a hoot:
"Oh hey hey! Well it's finally time for the much anticipated and long awaited UPDATE EMAIL YAAAAAAAAAH!!!
I've been here for about 2.5 weeks now and everything is going great! Air travel was not too shabby, I took a red eye from Houston to London and slept the whole time, highly recommend that- jet lag was minimal this time around. I took a bus from London to Oxford and it had wi-fi on it! (what!) So that was pretty awesome...
My dorm is much better than expected. I have a view of the street which is pretty cool, and I'm on the top floor and have to climb 5 sets of stairs every time that I come home, which is good b/c we've been late nighting at this ridiculous food truck basically every night haha. I may have pulled a muscle dancing at the Purple Turtle the other night (doing the clock, no big deal), so the stairs are kind of a problem but I'm getting by! I just walked by the food truck en route to the grocery store and the guy yelled at me asking if I wanted a lamb wrap... Which is what I always order... Which means the people who work at the truck know me and my order :/ I can't decide if I'm proud or embarrassed.
I have a freakish amount of reading, but the classes are good! I have Comparative Law M-Th, and a tutorial class with an Oxford professor once a week and that one is Comparative Human Rights Law. So far in Oxford I've toured the Bodleian Law Library, and the other day we got to see the main Bodleian Library and see some cool Harry Potter stuff! I've done a run by the Thames and through Christ Church as well. Tomorrow night we're seeing Macbeth at a theater here, and later this week going to see the last Harry Potter movie, should be fun! I have a lot more sight-seeing to do in Oxford, but so far it's been great!
Lindsay & Courtney (my roommates) came in town this past week and we had a blast! They started in London then came and slept on my dorm room floor (they slept on a sheet with travel pillows and Lindsay used a towel as a blanket... But it was free!) and they explored Oxford while I had class and reading. Then on Thursday we took off for Edinburgh! We took a train from here to there, and our first night we got in late and just stayed at a Holiday Inn in the outskirts of town, which had A/C, TV and hairdryers so I was in heaven! The next day we moved to our hotel for the rest of the weekend, the Ballantrae Albany Hotel. We were supposed to be staying at their "more affordable" sister hotel, but they overbooked and had to bump us up to their nicer one for the same price! It was beautiful, our room was huge and it was a great location. http://www.
That day we started at the Edinburgh castle then walked the Royal Mile down to the Royal Palace & Parliament. It was a really fun day, we stopped for some food and drinks on the way and tried Scotch eggs! That night we headed down to the Firth of Forth and ate on a ship on the water called The Cruz (http://www.thecruz.co.uk/). Afterward we went down to the bar underneath the restaurant and decided to buy a pitcher or blue drank and I won't say who but SOMEONE might have thrown up over the side of the ship... And... It was totally hilarious. We then headed to Jekyll & Hyde for the rest of the night.
On Saturday we decided to go on a hike and for some reason decided to leave the trail and just climb up the side of this ridiculous mountain. Court and I were wearing Toms and Molsen was wearing Converses, which, as you can imagine, are not all made for hiking. To make matters worse, it started raining and hailing and we pretty much just stood at the top of the mountain wondering what to do with ourselves before deciding to try to get down in the mud. I may have fallen three times on the way down, at one point ripping my jeans hahaha- I miss those jeans, but we needed some comic relief at that point and so it was worth it! After walking all the way to the hotel b/c no taxi would pick our pitiful sopping selves off the street, we went shopping then had dinner on Rose St. That night, we met up with some of my law school friends at Frankenstein's, which was AMAZING!
Then Sunday came and we had a night brunch at Cafe Royal then parted ways and I came back to Oxford. Court and Lindsay are in London and head back to Dallas tomorrow. I am headed to the Supreme Court on Thursday then Spain on Friday to see Abbey (a friend), so more updates are to come!"
As a parent, can I just say that she is waaaay too much like her mother? Just like a *chip off the old block*. And, what the heck is "The Clock" dance?...
