Some wonderful people in our small city have worked selflessly and diligently to find a home for this dear family that I spoke about before. It looked sketchy for a while there. Everything available to them was just too much money unless it was almost unlivable. Seriously. Unlivable was what they were struggling to rise above.
The Army veteran father and the mother both work in the food industry, so they have a very limited income, considering they also have three very young children to feed, clothe, keep well, and buy school supplies for. All they really needed was a couple of breaks in life. They just needed a chance to get back on their feet, which most often is difficult to come by in these harsh times.
A few people made some calls and as if part of a true miracle, one local (housing) leasing company jumped in and made some monetary concessions (a drop in rent), provided certain improvements were made to the property prior to them taking up residence there. So, a generous and kindhearted group of local humanitarians agreed to spend this coming weekend working on this rent house, painting, cleaning, adding blinds, etc. All of this is being donated by a diverse group of magnanimous locals who have come to care about this family of five that has fallen on hard times at the hands of careless, greedy slumlords. None of these people helping are what you'd consider wealthy, just hard working people who care about their fellow man. Especially when he's a veteran.
So, although the internet is often a scary world and used for nefarious purposes I'd rather not think about, it can also bring citizens together in an outpouring of care and concern in a world that often seems so lacking in it. It's bad enough that this young couple has fallen on such hard times, but even more deplorable that this man was an honorable soldier who fought for our country. In my opinion, it is scandalous and atrocious in a country of such wealth and power, such as ours, even in tough economic times.
For the second time within a month, my faith in human beings has been renewed… Who knows how many people from different walks of life will be there? When the going gets tough, it seems the tough have friends that help them fight back…. And fight back, they will.
