My Heart Goes Out To My Daughter And Her Friends Tonight....

This weekend our daughter was in New Orleans to attend the bachelorette party of a college friend. At the same time, another college friend was attending a different bachelorette party for yet another college friend in Beaumont, Texas (of "Footloose" fame).

Although it is all still under investigation by Beaumont PD, it appears her car caught fire and eventually exploded while traveling down the middle of a Beaumont residential street. When the fire department arrived after a 4:30 AM phone call about an SUV on fire, they discovered the charred remains of this beautiful vibrant young woman. She was 25 years old (same as SD) and was in her last year of law school, hoping to be a copyright lawyer after graduation. She had gone to UT with SD, was a Pi Beta Phi, worked all through undergraduate school for the Attorney General of Texas, and was a devoted Christian. She was an overachiever, just like SD. Little wonder they were friends.

Since the incident is still under investigation, there is no real explanation yet. She was driving a Mitsubishi Monterro midsize SUV and the car purportedly caught on fire and/or exploded. However, the initial investigation revealed that it appeared to have caught on fire just before exploding. I'm sure there will be something further at a later date.

When SD called tonight to tell me, she was depressed and didn't want to talk about it. She just wanted me to know what happened. Mr. Snoots and I are leaving for Dallas to see SD (for the first time) this week, so this might change our plans a bit. I told her not to worry. We've been to Dallas without her before but we'll miss her terribly. She knows that I, more than most, understand about the death of a friend. Everything is at a standstill during the grieving over the loss of a friend.

Please take a moment or two to pray for this outstanding young woman and her family, who just lost such a treasured daughter. Her mother was quoted by local news saying, "She worked hard for everything and was a woman of faith. This is a huge gain for Heaven." I'm absolutely certain I could not be so accepting of the circumstances. What a special family Jessica leaves behind and I know it will be the most difficult of all tasks a parent must perform. Living on without your child. My heart also goes out to all of her family and all of her friends, as I know she'll be strongly missed.

Rest In Peace Jessica. Heaven must be rocking out tonight....
