I am in no way opposed to LEGAL immigration which includes a process of citizenship (it should also include that the immigrant be required to pass at the very least, a simple English speaking test). Frankly, if the immigrant is not a criminal, there is no reason why he or she would object to this. All immigrants should be subjected to a thorough background check. It's what we do in this country. You cannot even volunteer at a school in this state without a background check, so immigrants should be held to the same standards.
Until you have lived in a state that borders Mexico and have children that have attended public schools in said states, you have no idea of what you speak. As a matter of fact, you aren't even qualified to have an opinion. I was on the front lines of the schools for many years (in a volunteer capacity) and I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Even though my experience was over ten years ago, I assure you that the situation has not in any way rendered or healed itself. When there are non-English speaking kids in a school, who refuse to speak the language and don't want to be there, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Hello!
All schooling issues aside, the War of the Drug Cartels is now spilling over into my homeland and I'm not one bit happy about it. Has it spilled over into yours up there in the North/East? I don't think so. So don't give me your liberal BS about disagreeing with my statement about schools. You have absolutely no idea what you are speaking about . I do and I'll defend my stance to the end... as soon as I send all of the illegals up to your territory, to see how well you like dealing with all the unexpected problems they bring along with their illegal immigration. You people need to realize that this is a MAJOR EPIDEMIC in our country. The majority of illegals coming across the border are either bilked into paying large sums of money and then dumped to fend for themselves (where they must steal to survive) or they are desperate criminals fleeing prosecution. Most of the women who pay to come across the border are sold into prostitution and can never get out due to the amounts they supposedly *owe* for their crossing and most are under the age of 18. Pull your heads out people! You owe it to yourselves to be better informed about the very things you disagree with.
Protest the Oil Spill, or the fact that homeless people in this country are growing in numbers, or the fact that unemployment in this country (largely due to overseas outsourcing) is crazy, or the crime rate, or cancer, or a number of other reasons to raise up in arms. However, do not try and tell me illegal immigration IS NOT a problem in this country, because IT IS. I live on the front lines. So go find another soap box. This one is taken and I'm not sharing the forum.
Frankly, I could continue with more and add a horrendous amount of nightmare tales but I'm fairly certain it would fall on deaf ears. Our housekeeper of many years is from Mexico, as is the rest of her large family, but they are legal citizens who have bothered to embrace the language and laws of their adopted country. They also pay taxes and are good, solid citizens with really tight family bonds. This is a different story than 90% of those who steal across the border in the dark of night. You can believe the ever-lying media as you always have, but you would be totally ignorant to do so.
