Baby Felicia The Fox Needs A Name.... Please Vote!

Now that we know for sure that Felicia is gone, it seems Baby Felicia is here to stay, in her place. I see her out in the backyard from time to time, so she survived one of our coldest winters to date. Our plants, shrubs and trees didn't survive, but the little fox surely did (note that there are no longer 8 feet tall Oleanders). Anyway, we know it isn't Felicia because she is so scared of us. I can't seem to get a decent picture of her unless she's asleep on the roof, which is still quite the challenge). She runs whenever she sees me (even though foxes are practically legally blind), which means she must sense my presence in some other animalistic way.




So, I believe it's time to name this little girl. I'm not sure if she's had any pups yet but I did see her scarfing a little squirrel a few days ago, before jumping up and over the concrete block fence, that leads to the garden. If she has indeed had pups, she's still hiding them out in one of her dens around our property, since they are blind for the first 10 days of life. Perhaps I'll get to see them very soon. I wish she trusted us more, but I'm sure that time will make her more comfortable with us. Hopefully.





Approximately one month ago I took a short video of the baby girl up on the roof.






Then, a few days ago I tried to get a shot of her but had the flash on for the first one, which didn't work because it was dusk at the time. By the time I was able to catch a shot, she was too far away and already on the fence, on her way to the garden den I suppose.




I thought I could post a voting widget but apparently that's too far beyond my mental capacity for me to handle, so I'm just going to throw out some names I've come up with. A Tribute To Felicia The Fox.... We Loved Her Well

Now that we know Felicia is gone, I think it's time for a tribute to her. I know it sounds completely cuckoo but I really did love her. I loved seeing her when I had coffee on the patio in the mornings. We loved watching her babies every year. Our friends loved it too. I'm guessing she was here for something like 8 to 10 years before her disappearance. I'm still sad but I'm grateful that I don't know what happened to her. I don't think I could bear that.



I'm also grateful that she brought her pups to my backyard last summer and introduced them to us, in her feral sort of way. It has to be the reason her baby girl is still here on our property. So, I'll get started on Felicia's little tribute.

And, the very last time I saw her. Vaya con dios Felicia.

Oh - And the Oleanders you see behind Felicia were killed this last winter during our last cold snap, which was a real devil. They are now completely gone, so we'll be spending even more money this year, buying new shrubs to replace the 8 bushes we lost during the bitter cold weather....

New Video Footage of Felicia And The Fox Family....

As of late the foxes have been all but absent. Then, today, they show back up minus yet another pup.. It appears that now there are only two, the boy and the girl. Felicia is still with them but we haven't seen handsome Fernando all summer long. Not. Once.


I'd like to apologize ahead of time for my shoddy filming skills. It's enough to make you dizzy, really. I never meant to be up for an Oscar nomination anyway, right?

They still know where to come in order to be safe...


Is it little wonder foxes are thought to be highly intelligent? Besides, they are ever so entertaining.

Losing My Blogroll, Foxes And Landscaping

Since Blogger somehow totally obliterated my blogroll a couple of weeks ago, I've been slowly trying to rebuild it but it's summertime and I have other things I should be doing. I even waited a few days before going on with a new blogroll because I thought they might give it back to me. Alas, it didn't work out that way, so I'm trying to get it back up to snuff.

In other news, Felicia and her foxy pups have been around A LOT, wreaking chaos and havoc in my lovely backyard. Honestly, I loved them being in the garden because no one could really see the awful mess they can make. The backyard? Well, that's an entirely different story which doesn't quite make me so happy. It's little wonder why Felicia looks so emaciated. Those pups are like wild Indians!


Last week I was finally able to get a landscape crew over here and get some much needed landscaping done out in front of our house. It's amazing what you can do with $600.00. The difference is truly eye-popping. Furthermore, I did the design all by myself which leads me to believe that I might have missed my calling in life. I can't believe I used to pay someone to do that for me, when I actually had it in me all the time.

Yes, the old wall of ivy had seen better days and had to go.


So, I planted four new Elaeagnus bushes but it will take a few years to catch up with the others. In order to keep the eye from noticing that, I bought two large planters and 2 Hibiscus trees. This way, when winter comes I can move the trees indoors. You know. Indoors, where I will probably kill them by way of ignoring them. Otherwise they would surely die. I had them line the bed with Lirope and then plant some Caladiums for a few pops of color.


We also added a couple of dozen plants to the bed in front of our circle driveway and spiffed up the flowerbed under the living room window. I also had the guys thin out my raised planter full of day-lilies then had them plant them in the backyard. That was one job I was not going to do and it was way past due. I then had them plant 10 large red Geraniums in with the day-lillies for some additional color. Also, we'd planted 3 new ornamental pear trees back in the spring and one had already died, but since they were guaranteed by the nursery, I also had them replace the dead tree.


So, things are really looking up here in Snooty Land......

Yeah. Who's Your Momma? That Would Be Me....

Felicia may have left our property because of rain but she's back with her babies now. She knows who loves her. Tonight, as the sun was receding into the West Texas horizon, Felicia brought her pups to our backyard to play. Being a rare opportunity, I made the most of it that I could. I made videos with my digital camera and Felicia was aware of my presence every moment, but didn't seem to mind. The puppies were pretty much clueless as to my being there. When they did notice me, they scattered to three of the four winds in the flash of an eye.

Can I just say here that I am so happy to have my little fox family back? My life has been a major void without them this summer. So, my heart soared tonight when I got to watch them play in the backyard. However, Felicia was constantly having to bat around the pups because they kept trying to feed from her tits. She slapped them around pretty well and they received the message loud and clear...


Life. Is. Good.....
