While going through the new "O" (Oprah) magazine, I just happened to notice an ad (toward the back of the magazine) for T-Shirt Quilts and thought that was the best idea I'd heard of in ages. The company is called The Campus Quilt Company. I spent the first half of the day today going through the pictures of the quilts they have made for people over the last decade. You can view them online for your own ideas. Of course, like anything of quality, these don't come cheaply. They are made by real quilters and the work is as high quality as it gets. They offer a variety of sizes and prices, as well as pillows in 2 sizes. They can usually get one out in 2 to 4 weeks, which is not bad at all.
Still, isn't this just a genius idea for old treasured T-Shirts? I spent the other half of the day today going through all the old t-shirts belonging to each off-spring and I intend to send them off for 2 individual quilts, probably one at a time to offset costs. Can't you just imagine how soft the quilts are? They also offer features like photo squares, sashing around each square, flannel backing, embroidery, and the option to have a wall hanging sleve. Each of the features adds to the total cost, of course. However, when you consider the work and the quality, it's actually quite an affordable treasure.
It's honestly better than a scrapbook because you can actually use it while you're remembering all the fun times it represents from your past. Imagine the dreams you could have under a quilt made of your memories from growing up...
Of course, SD has so many t-shirts that I might have to do many more quilts than one, over time. I'm pretty sure College Son has just as many but I'm not sure sure he'll like having them made into a quilt.
At any rate, I think this is a brilliant idea for preserving old memories for a generation that grew up wearing t-shirts everywhere, for everything...
Oh and the next thing I'm doing is taking all of the old vhs tapes of the family to be transferred to DVD's. I found some real doozies, so this should prove to be a great project as well.
