Yes, Another Rant About the FLDS....

Last night I watched a 48 Hours Special on CBS about the FLDS (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints) and basically the upshot of the deal was that they refuse to admit there has been any child abuse or any spousal abuse of any kind in the Eldorado, Texas compound. The spokesman they sent for this interview was a real slick character too. One of those guys that can turn the question on the interviewer, leaving him scratching his head for days. He was well dressed, in a very nice suit, and was well-spoken (meaning he had some good bull). They also sent another young man to go forth and be interviewed who is, among all of the polygamists, in a monogamous marriage. Bless his little ole heart. He just didn't seem like he was quite all there. Which is probably why they let him be interviewed and have only one wife. He was also well-dressed and did not look like any of the other men in the cult. That young man simply was not capable of mass manipulation or mass fornication. Forest Gump would have had a better grasp on the situation. Which is why they sent him. Uh-Huh.

They reported on a couple of young girls who were kidnapped from a camp outside Salt Lake City by a former member of FLDS and although one of them escaped, the other one ultimately did not. They were just 13 years old & pledged to marry much older men who had numerous other wives and they didn't want to go through with their marriages, even if it meant never seeing their siblings and parents again. They also had an interview with the girl that escaped, ten years down the road and she was still glad that she left, even though she still isn't married and has no family.

I apologize for going on another rant about this particular subject, but this entire situation just totally blows my mind. It's just so difficult to believe that this kind of practice is still going on in this day & age. This is supposed to be The Age of Awareness, is it not? I mean, Jeeze! I fought like crazy for women's rights in the early 70's. What good was it to burn my bra when this kind of thing is still going on and ALLOWED by the government because it all falls under the guise of Freedom of Religion? Bah! Pffft!

So, my question is this: Why aren't TPTB (the powers that be) looking for loopholes like the lawyers for the FLDS? Why isn't our side hiring some sneaky, sleazy lawyer to twist & turn the situation to our advantage? I say it's time to start fighting like they do. Under the radar. Out of the loop. Cheat in whatever way we can to get the outcome we want. Turnabout is still fair play, isn't it?

It's time for our government to get serious. It's time to stop the rape of young girls and the all around disgusting mistreatment of women within this cult. It is time to stop the bilking of our government welfare funds. You would think the government would catch on to taking it up the derriere like this. Or maybe they like it...

This whole story is nothing but a nightmare.

I understand. I think the issue is that if we don't do it correctly, they'll end up overturning things time and again. My heart breaks for the females in the grip of this cult though. Even if they got out today, it would take years to recover.
Thanks for keeping the attention focused on it.

Well said.

I would guess that TPTB in DC could care less ... to them its probably a 'state' matter ... that is IF there's anyone still working at Justice more likely they are all out looking for new jobs.

The whole thing is just absurd. I said this before and I say it again: Even Utah the home of FLDS is publicly against polygamists

I say take away their welfare checks!!

Snooty, I feel asleep, had all intentions of watching that. Did they cover anything at all about the boys/young men that grow up in the compound?

It sucks that they've been receiving welfare. Talk about working the system...man.

hc: I don't think they mentioned the boys but then I also fell asleep on a commercial & snoozed for like 10 minutes, lol.

ag: I guess as a stubborn woman, I'm just not able to let this go.

I apologize to everyone for being so absent lately. I've been trying to get the garden planted and catching up on my chores that I've grossly neglected.
