Let's Get This Show On The Road....

Now that Barack Obama has been sworn in, I am all about the future. George & Laura Bush are scheduled to be here in our town this afternoon for his *farewell speech*, but Mr. Snoots and I have decided we won't be going. I honestly don't want to hear anything more about the past. Instead, I want to look to the future on this historic day.

I wish President Obama all things good and pray that he can turn things around in this country, as he has promised. Funny thing is, I think he can do it. No, I know he can do it because I have faith in this man that I've been slow to warm up to. Slowly, the tides that are my emotions, have changed and I have great confidence that he will make this presidential term one that will forever be remembered and praised.

I think our country needed this man who is not one of the *good ole boys* in our nation's capitol. Obviously, the old dogs weren't getting *it* done. Now that the cleansing is complete, let the good times roll, so to speak. Mr. President, now is the time to get out there and kick some political butt and do some serious trimming. So, let's get this show on the road!

I'm also hopeful that First Lady Michelle Obama shows that she can change things up as well. Laura Bush is truly a class act and must be difficult to follow. Actually, I have no doubts that she will show that she is a class act as well. I read somewhere that Michelle's mother will be moving into the White House with them, in order to care for the two girls, which is pretty cool. No problem with trust there. I'm thrilled that she'll be there to cover the girls while the President & First Lady tend to business.

If you have ever seen the movie "Dave", then you saw how he ignored the protests of the politicians to trim spending and the *Washington Machine* did not like it one little bit. They wanted to get him out of there quickly, before he made any really gargantuan changes for the good of the country. He went over the heads of all the agreements made between lobbyists and congressional representatives, which is what I would truly love to see happen, although that's probably a Pipe Dream. However, if anyone can accomplish this, I believe that President Obama can. I pray that he can....
George W.'s speech will be covered online here. But, I'm watching Barack & Michelle.... I think the Bush coverage will go until about 6:00 PM, since the Bushes aren't scheduled to arrive until 5:00 PM.

I've been slow to warm to our new president, as well. However, I'm hopeful he will do what he set out to do.

And I think what you are doing for the house is fantastic!

Like you, I have been slow to warm up, but I have been impressed with what seems to be incredible thoroughness and great deal of thought from this man, Our President. At first when he assembled his team much earlier than other Presidents and presented speeches from the podium of The President Elect, I thought it was a little bit pompous. But actually, it shows great planning and transition - that we've never seen before. Already things have changed some and it came from him.

I had my teeth cleaned today and the parade was showing on the LCD screen and the hygienist kind of tongue-in-cheek said "No one's shot at him yet, have they?" We talked about how we know he's a sitting duck for some racial extremists in our own country and how horrible it would be if something like that were to happen. I think it would incite riots from coast to coast and possibly cause a civil war. So - praying something horrible doesn't happen to him because, again like you, I'm beginning to like this guy and I want to see what he can do.

I hope for change and renewed spirit...it's there...and compromises will have to be made. I hope we can stay united.

I, too, wish them the best. But I don't hold much hope as far as promises that any politician makes, no matter what party he represents. I don't trust any of them.

Well, I went ahead & watched George's speech, but watched it from here at the house. Our city went all out to welcome him home. I just don't like large crowds. Ever.

Now, they have taken off for Crawford and the ranch. Laura looked happier & more lovely than ever. She's such a great person. I'll bet they're both happy to have their lives back.

I just figure that if things are going to change in this country, we all need to get behind the new administration. So, I'm doing my best.

:-)

Too funny! The first thing I thought of when I saw where George & Laura Bush landed was, "That's where Snooty lives!" I said it out loud.

Being a former Washingtonian, I always geek out on inauguration--no matter who I voted for. We are very blessed to live in a country where transition is not only peaceful, but celebratory.

I have spent many inaugurations standing on cardboard to keep my feet warm (yes, it does work). Still, I was happy to watch the festivities from my home with a patched eye. Although, I will miss Farm Prom tonight (the agribusiness ball of choice). Man, that was a great excuse to buy a fabulous dress.

You are one cool lady! Thank you for being optimistic, hopeful and for having the courage and humility for saying what you said.

I think Obama rocks. And in 8 years you will be in tears when he leaves...

What a great post, Snooty. I know you haven't always been a supporter but I'm glad you can see the possibilities now.

I hope it will be a time of unity and support.

Yesterday was a wonderful day!

I feel once again I can hold my head high and be proud to call myself an American!

Barack Obama had me from hello, I've got to say, but I never thought he could win. Then yesterday, all day I was thinking, "I can't believe he's our president."

It was wonderful.

It kind of disgusts me that the liberal set wants us to "come together" and all that blah blah blah - when they weren't willing to do the same. So I'm taking the high road and I'm going to give the guy a chance. More than they ever did.

I like the way you said this. I've always liked this guy, and although some would pin me as one of the "liberal set," I vote for the person I think will be the best for the job and have a track record to show for it that I'm proud of. It's been on both sides of the fence. I'm looking forward to what this country deserves -- a bright future full of growth and an eye toward our children's futures. I think the next eight years will point us in that direction.
