Show And Tell... What's In Your Freezer?

Lauren of The Mental Pause Chronicles has been dieting and exercising, like many of us have since we rang in the New Year. Big Hair Envy has challenged dieters to reveal the ugly secrets of what we have hidden in our freezers. Here, I must admit that we have two freezers. One is free standing and one is attached to the refrigerator. I must admit they both have pretty healthy looking freezers full of food. Let's go see what the Snooty household freezer has.

Uh-Oh. The first thing I see is actually a hangover leftover from the holidays. I have not touched this gold box until I took this picture. Mr. Snoots loves this locally made Texas pecan (Flea: Look Away!) toffee and it really is to die for. Good thing I don't often have a sweet tooth or that stuff would have already disappeared and would now be resting in the area of my stomach and double chin. Yes, those are two of the most unattractive places to gain weight. Welcome to my world.

Ahhhh... Now here is a wonderful little secret I will let you in on. Haagen Daas lemon or lime sorbet is one of my favorite desserts, as long as it has a shot of tequila poured over it. It almost tastes like you're eating a margarita and the best part is that this fabulous dessert is only a total of 281 calories.

Mainly, we have salmon, tuna steaks, shrimp, Tilapia, Red Snapper, veal chops, Sea Bass, elk meat (that a friend gave us) and rack of lamb. You won't see any frozen veggies aside from black eyed peas and early sweet peas because I can't stand frozen or canned vegetables. Of course, they are great in a pinch. I just never get in that big a pinch. I like my veggies fresh.

The white bags are actually full of a dozen pork tamales each. My housekeeper makes them for us. Unfortunately, we can't seem to eat them quite fast enough. I'm sure those are diet tamales, right? Again, these are things that Mr. Skinny Snooty likes.

The items you see in the door are Mr. (skinny booty) Snooty's. I wouldn't touch them even if I weren't on a diet. That stuff makes me want to blow chunks. He thinks those nasty little White Castle cheeseburgers are good. Blech! He can have them. If I were starving, I MIGHT eat them, but probably not.

Now, on to the other freezer. This is the scary one. I try to never open this freezer unless I absolutely have to. It's filled with naughty food items, so you dieters might want to look the other way or just skip over this part entirely. This is what it's like to diet when you live with a skinny man. I still have to fix meals that he will enjoy as well. Luckily, he eats a big meal at lunch when he goes out with friends and associates. Sounds like fun, doesn't? I rarely get to indulge in such frivolous acts as going out to lunch... even when I'm not dieting.

First, we have an abundant supply of (OH NO!) Creme Brulee. Yes, I know. It has taken every ounce of my willpower not to stick one of these babies into the oven. These. Are. To. Die. For. Mr. Snoots loves them and has them whenever he feels like it. Why? Because he's skinny and he can. Grrrr!

Otherwise, the remaining items are pretty innocuous. Green hatch chiles (always low in calories), tortillas, pie crusts, and mostly items that are used in dishes that I make. Oh, and more white bags of homemade pork tamales. I guess we need to get busy on those, huh?

I guess you'd say my dieting is all about fresh vegetables and charcoal grilled fish. I could live on fresh salads and grilled fish for an indefinite period of time.

Soooooo... This is what it's like to diet and live with a skinny man who has never had to diet or exercise in his entire life. A peek inside my freezers doesn't exactly look like I'm dieting, but this is what my diet world looks like. It was much worse when the kids were still at home. It calls for extreme self control, which is never as simple as it sounds.

Oooo. The toffee looks so gooood. *drool* And I love your sorbet and tequila idea! Mmmm! I'm hungry now. Lunch, anyone?

I used to share your disdain for frozen veggies...(with the exception of frozen chopped onions, which are great in a meatloaf)

BUT

the new ones that steam in the microwave are not half bad.

ANNHHHH, I recognize that deadly gold box from Texas. Is that Sally's or Dolly's toffee??? That stuff has a stick of butter per bite. I do not allow it in my freezer.

Now now though...I'm intrigued by the notion of H-D lime or lemon topped with tequila, ooh I will be trying that tout de suite.

I was just arguing with my sig other since we just joined Costco (specifically for their wild salmon filets and the Elizabeth Arden face cream) about obtaining a freezer. I've done that deal before, it just fills up with freezer burned meat of all kinds, ice cream with ice crystals all over it, and bottles of tequila and vodka. That last could be useful with the H-D though.

What are you planning to make for dinner with those Hatch chilies?? And what time did you say dinner was??? :)

Yay! If my rugrats would eat fish, I'd have tons of it too. I think your freezers are decidedly Texas;) However, I do have a little hankering for a dozen or so White Castles now....

Hmmm... I've heard of White Castles.
You're way more organized with your freezer. I have to become a contortionist to open mine and keep all the food inside so I can slam it shut!

Thanks for letting us peek!

Frozen creme brulee? Where can I get that?

Wow - lots of fish! That looks like a well-stocked freezer. I dare to look in mine. It's such a mess.

I have such a sweet tooth. There is no way those desserts would last long around me:(

Wow, I wish I could get fish like that for my freezer. If I want fish, I pretty much have to catch my own catfish and that isn't my favorite anyway. I miss Texas fish... :( My freezer has lots of ice cream in it, my husband and kids would pour out ice cream if someone was not break one of their arms off!

Ha, what a fun post. I'm a freezer girl myself, everything I buy goes in the freezer, my fridge is usually empty, but freezer is most always loaded.

Okay people. Truth be told... a friend of ours got a new freezer for Christmas and since our old one was about to kick the bucket, they gave us their old one, which is new to us! That's the ONLY reason the big freezer looks so organized. Ha! The smaller one is the perfect reflection of what mine normally looks like. Uh-Huh.

The Texas Pecan Toffee is from Suzy's South Forty. Twenty years ago Suzy was making it out of her house and eventually turned it into a worldwide business, and now also has a shop in a very trendy shopping area here, as well as online.

Cathy, the Creme Brulee is purchased at HEB grocery store, but I'll give you the address & name of the company that makes it, just in case your grocer can't get it. It is every bit as good as the Creme Brulee we used to have at the Racquet Club. I swear it is the absolute best. It definitely beats the heck out of the *wheat grass brulee* I had in Las Vegas. Trust me on this.

Allison: When you cook 6 to 7 nights per week, nothing ever gets freezer burn. And, we shop at Sam's on a regular basis. However, we no longer buy most of the junk food we used to buy for the kids. That said, if we lived in Austin, we'd probably never eat at home. Oh, and I have the Central Market Hatch Chile Cookbook that my daughter went to great lengths to get for me last year. I'll be sharing some of them here on this blog from time to time.

#1 sista: I get the fish at Groomer's in San Antonio... right off the boat. It's only a 12 hour drive round trip, lol.

Ummm... actually not right off the boat. Right off the airplane that got the fish right off the boat.

I feel very inadequate as a cook/organizer of meals.

I'm hungry! Can I come over? Um, I'm kinda NOT kidding, I'm coming to Texas--would love to meet you and get into some trouble =)

I will strive to have a nice neat freezer like yours when I finish my move. Hubby & I are finally combining homes. We will now actually be living together full time. Wow, wonder if we'll make it to our second anniversary! I've likened the process to playing golf with a bowling ball, and expecting to win. He has way too much stuff!
