The wind chill is 11 degrees. If this isn't the kind of weather to make you sick, then I don't know what is. My outdoor plants are most likely dead after this little cold snap, even though they were covered with heavy blankets. I'm not even going to leave the house today, it's so cold. I have a wonderful fire going in the fireplace today and this is where I'm going to stay. Even the cat agrees. The local Widiots (weather idiots) predicted snow mixed with feezing rain but, as usual, they were wrong.
On another note... We've been smelling the most awful odor around our house. Really. It smells like rotten eggs. First thinking it was the old pipes, we poured huge bottles of Clorox down the drains, which would work for a day or two. Then, the nasty odor returned in full force. It's been driving us nuts. So, I finally did a Google search and came up with all kinds of possibilities for what might be the source of this problem. Over the weekend we tried several of the suggested remedies. Yesterday, the odor was back with a vengeance. So, today I'm waiting for the plumber to arrive. He gets to crawl under the Peer & Beam part of our house in search of a broken sewer line, which is what they predict the problem to be. Sometimes I really hate old houses...
Colonoscopy Update:
I survived my first visit to the Gastro Doctor. Actually he's quite nice and is originally from India. We have an abundance of Indian doctors here and they are all very good doctors. We chatted a bit about my family history & other unmentionable histories. He explained that they will knock me out with Demerol for the procedure. Thank God. He also explained that the worst part of it will be the night before the procedure, when I must completely cleanse my insides. Oh Yeah! That sounds like a hot time. Then, he explained that if they find any polyps during the procedure, they will go ahead and remove them. Thank God I'm going to be asleep.
Anyway, after my first visit with this very personable doctor, I feel much better about the procedure. Sort of. I go in for my colonoscopy on Thursday, February 5th. I figure I might as well quit putting this off.
Next thing you know, I'll be doing crazy things like scheduling appointments with my Gynecologist, whom I haven't seen in a while....

LMAO! Yup. You either have to be totally boring or funny. I'll take funny.
I've had one. I hope they put you all the way out! I was out, but became aware when they chopped off those polyps. I think they forgot to sharpen the chain saw! I had 3. Not the kind that turn cancerous, but they lopped 'em off anyway. Oh, and the day before, you WILL enjoy that! I'll be thinking about you.
You've probably heard these before, Snooty, but they just seem so appropriate.....
A physician claims these are actual comments from his patients made while he was performing colonoscopies:
1. "Take it easy, Doc, you're boldly going where no man has gone before."
2. "Find Amelia Earhart yet?"
3. "Can you hear me NOW?"
4. "Oh boy, that was sphincterrific!"
5. "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"
6. "You know, in Arkansas, we're now legally married."
7. "Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?"
8. "You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out. You do the Hokey Pokey ..."
9. "Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!"
10."If your hand doesn't fit, you must acquit!"
11. "Hey, Doc, let me know if you find my dignity."
12. "You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?"
13. "Could you write me a note for my wife, saying that my head is not, in fact, up there?"
I too will be thinking of you!
Oh Yeah! I feel better. 11 & 12 were my favorites.
Thanks Snooty! You're making me feel so much better about seeing someone about my behind. The hubs has his behind done regularly and I've escorted him to and from the event. It's always entertaining a day or two later when he claims he doesn't remember what I told him on the drive home!
And here's hoping your other pipes (in the house) are fine too!
Seriously...what Janie said. You've got to be a "special" person to exam assholes all day. Who would choose that as a profession? I'm cracking up becasue my bird is whistling / saying "asshole" as I type this. It's his new favorite phrase...
LMAO! Thanks for making me laugh everyone...
Hey - I think my colonoscopy's on the same day. We'll drink our poison kool aid together on the same night before! I've also heard that's the worst part. Ugh. But we'll be fine!
My hubby had this done back on December 23 (yeah, Merry Christmas baby!)...Lol. And he's only 44 but has diverticulitis (sp?)...so he had to have one.
From what I hear they have come a long way in making these things relatively easy. My mom tells me of the day YEARS ago when she took my grandmother to get one (or something like it) and she could hear her screaming all the way down the hall!
I remember when Hubby started doing the "cleansing" the night before and I kept calling him (I was out all day) and asking him if he'd had his Dumb & Dumber moment kick in yet. (Dumb & Dumber - the movie ...if you haven't seen it, one of the characters keeps having explosive diarreaha)...
Anyway, Hubby said there was nothing to it. I think he was a tad sore, but that's all. Good luck!
You are a riot but I always love your attitude...when you were talking about the smell, I thought you were going to say you found something is wonderful sons room!!!
Plumbing problems all the way around then, right?
Stop by Rubbish, I've left you an award.
Might be easier to move than to tackle plumbing issues!!
It really isn't so bad. So I hear.
WHEW! I don;t want to be YOU NOW!
Seriously though...I'm sure it will be a BREEZE! I will DEFINATELY be thinking of you that day...even wrote on my calender, so I would'nt forget to say an extra prayer for your courage, etc!
The rotten eggs...yep sewer!
I have been reading your blog for several months and have never commented before. I just wanted to let you know that I had a colonoscopy at 40 because my father had colon cancer. The procedure itself is not bad at all, however, like your doctor said, the night before is the worst part...but not as child birth...!
I love your blog...!
Kansas
Thanks everyone! I think by the time it rolls around, I'll be fine with it. I've had IBS for so long that I'm used to gut problems. Ha!
The plumber has crawled under the house & is trying to fix whatever the problem is, as we speak. This is his second day at it. Sigh.
OK I lied yesterday and didn't call the Dr., but I DID today. No one was at the office because we are covered in a layer of snow, then ice, then snow again. Still, I called and left my number. A step in the right direction. I went to the same Dr. with my mom last year and it really wasn't that bad. No one has mentioned the AMAZING nap you will experience after you get home. My mom said it was euphoric!
HMMM
a broken sewer pipe coming so close to a colonoscopy...
theres a joke to be made there somewhere
Umm Yeah. I'll leave that joke up to you, V.V.
;-)
no no! I get enough traffic looking for that sort of joke. :-)
At any rate, Im glad you are goin ahead with the colonoscopy, despite its unpleasantness. One of my uncles wouldnt be with us now if he hadnt.
Hope the pipes are all good now! (yours and the houses!)
