I Had The Best Intentions.... Really!

We went to a Super Bowl party at a friend's house yesterday and I had the best intentions to blog about it, with pictures. Apparently, I'm not the good blogger I thought myself to be. I took several pictures when we first arrived, but as other friends began to show up, I completely forgot about taking pictures. Yes, I'm bad.

Our friends have this party every year, but this year the hubby decided to have it catered so his wife wouldn't have to work herself to death, which she does, every year. (We should all be so lucky...) This year, she was able to talk, and visit, and have fun with the rest of us. The food was fabulous and the caterers completely cleaned up before they left.

Mr. Snooty made the guacamole, as he always does, but the caterers did an outstanding job. They had mini tamales wrapped in bacon with pesto, chicken wings, sliders (mini cheeseburgers), shrimp boil with the works, smoked elk tenderloin, mini tacos, and the list goes on. It was an outstanding buffet and I'm so sorry I was having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures after the party got started.

Betting was rampant and even after all the money we sank into the betting, we didn't win diddly squat. I think the commercials were pretty good although I didn't really get to hear any of them. There were approximately 40 people there, so it was loud, to say the least. I'll watch the commercials on the internet today so I can really see them and hear them.

Our friends had four different rooms set up with HDTV, so if you got bored with one group, you could just move on to another. That made it really fun. Outside they had the chiminea going full blast, as well as a tall butane heater, so the smokers would be comfortable outside. Oh, then there was also the smoker, which was really quite toasty to stand next to. Although it got to 63 degrees yesterday, it got really cold as soon as the sun went to bed.

The highlight of the evening (well, for the ladies, anyway) was the arrival of our golf club pro who had a very inebriated friend from Scotland in tow. This adorable drunken Scotsman proceeded to flirt with every woman he came in contact with. I had the privilege of being the first one to be hit on and then, having a front row seat as he moved from one wife to the next. The crowd of ladies watching *the show* grew and we did have fun with this poor fellow. He had no idea who he was up against when he arrived, but he had no doubts by the time he left. I'm sorry I didn't take a picture of him. This large crowd of golfers has only long time married couples who don't do the messing around thing. But, he really was adorable, in a drunken sort of creepy way. You can most likely guess what his answer was when I asked him if he wore anything under his kilt. Yeah.

So, who won the Super Bowl anyway? I was having so much fun that I forgot to watch the end. Tee hee…

That sounds like so much fun!! Can I invite myself for next year?

It's the accent that made him so adorable. I have a friend from Scotland and I could just listen to her talk all day long, especially when she drinks because her accent gets thicker and thicker!!

I agree that accents can be quite appealing.

"But, he really was adorable, in a drunken sort of creepy way." -- I love it Snooty! I know exactly what you mean.

I have never had a slider... After all the cooking and cleaning up I did, I could get behind having a caterer for the superbowl.

You'd be so fun to have at a party Snooty! And you're a great blogger even without the picture of the drunken Scotsman!

Sounds like an awesome party and I'm the same way...I always forget my camera when I should. I missed my picture of this huge mouse we caught the other day...gross, but later I did think "Sheesh, shoulda gotten that for my blog!" Amazing what kind of creatures we have turned into isn't it? hehe

I dont 'get' the premise of a slider .. its just a mini burger .. I got some tuna sliders for dinner last nite ... they did not slide anywhere.. they sat on the toasted bun and waited to be bitten, chewed and swallowed ...

I know. I don't get why they're called sliders either. I'm sure there must be a story behind that.

You people know how to do it up! I think I'll move to Texas! I love having my parties catered...then the kitchen isn't a diaster!

To quote Wilipedia, "A variety of hamburger is the "slider", which is a very small square hamburger patty sprinkled with diced onions and served on an equally small bun. This is the kind of hamburger popularized by White Castle. The name comes from their size, whereby they are considered to "slide" right down your throat in one or two bites."

So there ya go...the answer to your question about sliders.

Sounds like a lot of fun!!!

That should be Wikipedia...by Marlenapedia...the nickname I have at work, because if I can't find it then it isn't on the web.

Sounds like a great time..I was only able to listen to the game because I was in the process of typing one of three papers..UGH!!!
We have a different interpretation of sliders here, but they do come from White Castle.

Hmmm... very interesting. I gagged part of one slider down because I put one on my plate, lol. Any kind of hamburger wreaks havoc on my poor tummy these days, but I figured since it was so little....

Thanks for the story Marlene!

How fun! I sat on the couch oblivious to the game...don't I sound like fun?

Sounds like a fantastic time. :) I only watched the last quarter and it seems that was the best part. No great food, though, since I was in a room full of eating disorder patients. Probably best for my hips that way.

It's almost that time of the week. You ready?

I love drunk Scotsmen -- was he like Colin Ferguson? Oh this sounds like fun. The only thing missing, again, was ME!!
