The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly....

While Hurricane Alex thankfully did not make matters worse for the oil spill in the Gulf, we are just now beginning to see and feel the spin-off weather from it. This comes after 10 straight days of rain prior to the effects of Hurricane Alex. We've had tremendous amounts of flooding but since it is West Texas, it normally gets soaked up by the parched land in a heartbeat. However, the ground and plants have finally had their fill but the rains continue. I'm truly thankful that we went out of town last weekend so that we could see that the sun is really still there.

Various activities and concerts that had been scheduled around town have been canceled, including the first day of *The Firecracker* golf tournament I'm scheduled (or was scheduled) to play in. It rained most of Saturday, so it would not have been fun tournament play. Anyhoo, we were still on for the *Shamble* today. I just spoke with the club pro and he said I tee off with my group at 9:45 this morning. I have a gut feeling that I'm going to get a little wet today, so I won't be wearing makeup, lest it end up all over my polo shirt.

The spin-off storms from Hurricane Alex are moving like molasses and they keep changing directions, so there is no predicting what they will produce as they creep along.  The humidity is so stifling that I dread the sun coming out, since it will feel like being in a pressure cooker at that point. The good news is that we MIGHT finally be done with rain for a few days.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I'm just back from our club golf tournament and the tournament was *called* just as we were making our way (in the pouring rain) to the #11 hole. We were all so sure that it would end that we hovered under some trees for a good half hour before crying *Uncle!*. We all huddled together at the club house for another 30 minutes and then the rain miraculously slowed to a light drizzle, so we all kind of broke ourselves into foursomes and finished our rounds in the most incredibly delightful weather ever. I felt like I was having a Spa Day with all the misting and humidity going on. Seriously. It was as good as getting a facial. Only free.
It was a good thing the tourney was canceled because I couldn't sink a putt to save my life. Go. Figure.
I sent our "facial" rain in your direction. You are welcome!
Glad you got to finish your game!
I guess that's unusual weather for west TX. For several summers in a row that was what we had: always gray and rainy... for us it was quite cool too, actually downright chilly. All the fun summer activities were always canceled, and soon the long harsh winter began. But this year... it's been glorious! Since mid-March. The most beautiful Spring-early Summer I ever remember. Now some people are starting to complain that it's too hot or too dry... I'm just enjoying it .... because I know it's probably just a once-in-a-generation fluke. Hopefully your bad weather is that. :o\
So sorry... we just had a gorgeous weekend with no rain or even humidity. My plants don't look so great as we were away at the lake, but I enjoyed it!
We are crazy hot, but I can golf in hot & humid. I can't golf in blizzards and hurricanes.
I'm always the eternal optimist that insists we all go have a drink until bad weather passes. We usually end up drenched and a bit tipsy.
