Ch... Ch... Ch... Changes Are Going On! Please Vote.

I've spent the last week trying to decide what material I want to recover Mr. Snooty's grandmother's club chair with. It's a dilemma because it's one heavy son-of-a-gun but also a solid piece of well made furniture. Now, having a chair recovered costs almost as much as buying a new piece, but I'm totally into the whole *re-purposing* thing. I basically consider it an investment.

So, since this is going to be a major expense, I want to be sure that I choose a fabric that I'll still love *on down the road*, right? I'm hoping that you decorator wannabes can help me out here, because I'm having trouble deciding. Go. Figure. From what I've assessed, the cost could be anywhere from $350.00 to $1,000.00, depending on the fabric. Sadly, I seem to have expensive tastes.

The paisley fabric is the same as the sofa I bought from my friend's mother's estate sale, so I'm trying to coordinate the club chair with the sofa. Anyhoo, here are the choices I'm considering:

#1
#4

#2 So, what do you think? I love all of the combinations & just can't decide what to do.

#3

Then, I bought a red microfiber chair and ottoman from a consignment shop for $40.00 as a *stand in* while the club chair is off being updated.

Once the club chair from the den is back from being reupholstered, I'll move the new chair and ottoman to the living room while the peach colored (living room) chair goes off to be re-covered. Like I've said before, this house is a work in progress...

Anyway, I'd love to get some votes or feedback of any kind on the color choices for the club chair. I have such a difficult time deciding on ANYTHING!I need HELP!

I like the black background with the dots or the houndstooth. The dots blend very well with your paisley and the houndstooth is a classic. Both checks make me think "country" and that's not bringing your chair into 2012. And that's my 2 cents.

I'm thinking the dots too. Thanks for your input!

I like the houndstooth check. Or a solid color, like the 2nd darkest beige/gold color that you see in the flower on the couch fabric. I think the couch is such a huge piece with a busy fabric that any other patterns should be kept relatively small. So if you do a solid or a subtle tone-on-tone then you can use coordinating fabric in a pillow, or valance, or a throw. Or even use solid fabric for the main part of the chair and use a coordinating fabric on one side of the seat cushion so that you can change it up a little bit by flipping the cushion over.

I also think instead of selling the pecan end table, since it's such a quality, heavy piece you can remake it! Sand it and give it a nice espresso stain, or dark walnut. You can tape off and use spray primer and metallic spray to change the brass piece by the glass and change the glass tinted glass with a clear glass with beveled edge.

The glass is great - for variety you can change out a fabric piece underneath the glass so that the pattern shows. You could even do a temp fabric wrap on the rattan ottoman lids you have for the coffee table - if you did a lighter fabric it would lighten up and provide good contrast from the other dark tones.

Lots of possibilities! :-)

Hi Tammy: Long time no hear from. Actually, if you had been reading my blogs all this time, you'd know that I either re-purpose, give it to the kids, or sell off everything, but one only has so much room for storing more junk. I have run out of space & since we're downsizing soon, I'm really trying to be ruthless in tossing things out or giving them away. My house has changed more than 75% since you were last here for your visit. At this point, I'm merely keeping only what I want to carry to our next home & since we don't know what it will be like, it's difficult to anticipate. So far, I like what I've got going on and things are looking better & better every day. But, thanks for the suggestions!

SJN: Yes, I wouldn't even hope to bring our decor into the new millennium. I'm just trying to bring it out of the 1970's at this point. Baby steps here, since I don't want to injure my hubby...
