Fred, Bessie And I Meet Fellow Blogger Janie

What a fun day this has been! Fred, Bessie and I ventured downtown again to meet Janie of Sounding Forth for lunch at the (locally) legendary Italian restaurant Luigi's. (When I was a little girl they still had sawdust on the floor and we always thought it was such a treat to go there. I still feel the same way.) When we arrived, Janie was already seated but we spotted her right away.

You won't believe all of the wonderful goodies that Janie brought for Fred and Bessie. She handed me an enormous gift bag filled with a pair of miniature cowboy hats, Texas Size Jalapeno Seeds (which are really big green jelly beans), a package of tissue/hankies for each, several Texas style bumper stickers, two *Don't Mess With Texas* drink coolers, a deck of Texas playing cards, a Texas fun map, and two really great Texas coffee mugs. Oh Wait! I almost forgot the bales of hay they are standing on. Is Janie hilarious or what? The bovines are both in hog heaven right now. Whew! I think I'm going to have to go ahead and send Flea a box of all the souvenirs, otherwise, the shipping costs will soon be going through the roof.

At any rate, Janie is so cute and exactly as fun as I thought she'd be. Of course, the bovines loved her as well. She and I even discovered that we know more people in common than we'd previously thought, so it's a wonder that we had not ever met before. We decided that meeting once a week for lunch might be just the thing. So, it seems Fred & Bessie have gotten me together with a new friend. What amazing bovines they are!

Sadly, it was time to end our two hour lunch (it only seemed like 30 minutes really) and we bid our farewells. Sniff, sniff! But not to worry! Janie and I will most likely be meeting again for lunch next week, even though Fred & Bessie will be off to new adventures by then.
Did I mention we gave Fred and Bessie kisses? Yup. Further proof of my insanity and it must be contagious, as Janie took part as well.

Golf Cart Surfing And Margaritas With Fred And Bessie

Anyone who even slightly suspected I might be nuts is probably sure of it now. I've ridden around town with the travelling bevos perched on my car's dashboard, taken them to the museum, and now I've taken them to play golf.

I normally play with the girls on Wednesday and Friday but this week our day was moved to Thursday. So I packed up Fred And Bessie and we hit the golf course, teeing off at 10:00 AM. They loved riding on the dashboard of the golf cart, which is what gave them their next idea.

Fred and Bessie decided the golf carts were just too much fun and insisted they wanted to surf on top of the golf cart. I provided them with some sticky stuff so they wouldn't have an accident and off we went. You should have heard their squeals of delight! Wheee! They were just hilarious. SURFING U.S.A.!!!!!

I put them out to pasture for some much needed grazing while we were waiting for the slow old farts in front of us, which the bevos were most grateful for. As a matter of fact, they ate so much grass I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get them back in the cart. However, we managed, and moved on to the next hole.

They served as a most complimentary gallery and I shot a really great round, although I didn't break 100. Fred & Bessie loved watching my friend Judy play, as she is really good.

When we were finished with our round, we turned around and played in the Scramble hosted by our club each Thursday. Unfortunately, no one won the money so it carries over to next week. It should be around $1,000.00 next week.

Notice how I have them far enough away from me so as to not harm them, just in case I shank one.

After we finished we headed to a favorite local Mexican food restaurant called La Bodega, where we had Margaritas and dinner. Fred & Bessie chose not to have Margaritas, but thoroughly enjoyed the hot sauce & chips. Frankly, I was so tired that I forgot to take any more pictures. The Margs were also having their way with me, so we headed home after that, with no fanfare.

After some much needed rest, we'll be out and about and ready to go on our next adventure.
Which I believe will be lunch with Janie of Sounding Forth. It will be the first time Janie and I have met In Real Life, even though we live just minutes apart. Fred & Bessie are our *Visiting Ambassadors* you know.

Fred & Bessie's Awesome West Texas Adventure... Day One

Yes, it's true. Fred & Bessie arrived in West Texas today. However, they are both in total Culture Shock, which may take them a day or so to recover from. I can't honestly blame them. When I moved to Texas from Colorado 33 years ago, I suffered from culture shock and STILL haven't recovered. I'm fairly certain they will be gone before it effects them permanently. (Be sure to click on each picture for a much larger image.)

Since they arrived a few hours ago, Fred & Bessie have been begging to go see some oil wells. Now, an oil well in these parts, is a common thing and you see them everywhere. However, in order to understand the "oil bidness" a little better, I thought I'd take them to The Petroleum Museum, which explains the process of drilling for oil from beginning to end. There are also many interactive displays that help in the understanding, and which are fun as well. Okay. So, that was the plan. However, like the West Texas weather, everything can change, and usually does.

However, I first wanted to give them the souvenirs I bought for them in San Antonio a few weeks ago when I was visiting a friend there. This gesture seems to have brightened up both of their spirits. Or maybe it was the beer. (Notice the tiny little beer bottles on the tray. They each drank a full beer, then shared the last one.) I'm not sure if I should take them anywhere in public now. Public intoxication is, after all, against the law. I'd hate to see them wind up in jail, especially since Fred & Bessie would be separated. Oh my! Yes, that would be a tragedy.

Well, as luck would have it, Fred, Bessie and I were touring around the downtown area and they insisted on riding around with their heads stuck out the window. While their heads were out the window, they were cackling and giggling like bad children in church. This is the point at which it happened. A policeman pulled me over and I was sure that he was going to ticket me for going too slow or something. Fred & Bessie, still feeling the full effects of the beer, were whooping & hollering like a couple of inebriated bovines crazies. Unfortunately, he didn't pull me over for a ticket.

The officer claimed I had two drunk entities in my car, which is never, under any circumstances, allowed. I promised to take them home immediately and put them to bed, but the peace officer wasn't buying it. He said they had to be arrested, charged, and released before I could see them again. He proceeded to read them their Miranda Rights, handcuffed them in the squad car, took them to the station, fingerprinted them as best he could, then took their mug shots.

OH NO! Fred & Bessie In The Pokey? This just can't be happening. I mean, they've only been here for a few short hours and already I've gotten them in trouble. Big Trouble. I am so upset about this chain of events that I could just puke. I had such fun plans for them today. Instead, they are spending their first day in the City Jail with CRIMINALS. This is not at all what I'd had planned, Dear Readers. I wanted them to see the finer side of Midland and instead, they are starting out by experiencing the seedier side to life in Midland.

Flea, I am so totally sorry for letting this horrible thing happen! I never dreamed a little cruise around the downtown area in such heat (Hey, maybe they had a touch of Heat Induced Turrett's Syndrome) would result in something like this. I feel HORRIBLE. I suppose if there was anyone ripe for getting the bevos into this kind of trouble, it would be me. However, all is not lost. I phoned a friend of mine and arranged to get Fred & Bessie out of the clink much earlier than they would have otherwise.

This is a picture of Fred & Bessie leaving the City Hall, after I sprung them from jail (which they were never actually put into...). It was but a minor cost when compared to how entertaining they are for me. Suddenly I have a life & someone to take care of. I mean, I will take care of. I Will.

We are all now back here at the abode and they are both in bed, in our son's old room, sleeping off aching hangovers. I had no clue that beer could effect such special cows so much. At any rate, I'm just happy that they're both alright. Thank goodness I was the designated driver! With luck, they won't remember a thing when they awaken in the morning. Well, I'm not telling unless asked. I might even lie when asked.... I might even offer them a hair of the dog. He he he... Wait! My Evil Twin said that.
