One Down And One To Go.... With Many Parties Before We Sleep

Our daughter flew into town last night, so I was summoned to the airport to pick her up. This year, we have a new twist on things. Snooty Daughter broke a small bone in her ankle a couple of weeks ago, and is hobbling around on crutches. So, when I went to claim her at the airport around 11:00 PM, I had to park the car and go in to get her bags, helping her to also *crip* to the car. Luckily, I found a parking space as close to the baggage area as can possibly be found. I think I should have bought a lottery ticket after that.

She didn't like the doctor she went to in L.A. for her ankle, so I've made an appointment for her to see my orthopedic surgeon, who made both of my knees new again. Hopefully, he can work his magic on her too. She's a rather pitiful sight at this point and it completely wears her to a frazzle going around on the crutches because it's too painful to put any weight on the foot. Now that she's here, I too, am worn out, but she's clearly content being home again and letting me pamper and care for her. On a limited basis, to her specifications, of course. Well, for nine days anyway.

We stayed up way too late talking and I slept until Noon today. What a treat that was! We laid around her room most of the day today, talking and watching TV and laughing. It's good to be able to do this before her brother comes home.

Tomorrow (Monday) night we have The Minuet Club Christmas Ball (which is also the Deb Presentation) to attend, but SD says she isn't going this year because she doesn't want to hobble around the Petroleum Club on crutches all night. Can't really blame her for that, even though I would. It's the best party in town, I swear. It's the one big party during the holidays that we almost never miss. The food is to die for and it gives me the chance to see friends that I seldom ever get to see anymore. Every one's kids are home for the holidays and it offers me the chance to talk with them as well. Nope. I don't want to miss it. Besides, it's the one time of year I get to really dress up and we always dance and have a wonderful time.

Here's a picture of the dress I got at Nordstom's, to wear this year. It is absolutely gorgeous and makes me look really skinny. No. Honest. It Does!

Then, we have another favorite party we're invited to every year, whose theme this year is Dress As Your Favorite Hollywood Star which is on the 23rd. This year the host and hostess are dressing as Sharon & Ozzy Osborne. Last year the theme was 1970's Attire and this party is such a gas! There are usually like 200 people there, so it's a good thing they have an enormous home. I'm anxious to see how the wife dresses this year, since she's always the innovative half of the couple. As you might have guessed, I'm going as Joan Crawford AKA Mommie Dearest, since I'm anxious to get a few more miles out of that costume, minus the black hair. When I wore it to the Halloween party, it was a different group of party-goers, so I'm safe there. Do you think I could pass for Lana Tuner (with blonde hair) instead? Any suggestions?

Snooty Son is also flying in that night and is scheduled to arrive around 7:00 PM, so we might be a bit late to the party, but we will hopefully have both kids in tow. It's going to be SO MUCH FUN! Did I mention that I'm the only one in our family going in costume? Which means there is a 75% probability that I won't go in costume at all, so as to not humiliate the family, as much I'd really like to.

Last, we have a party at a friend's house on Christmas Eve. Sometimes we go and sometimes we don't. I'm not yet sure if we'll go this year but they bought a new house this year and I'd love to see it.

Have fun waiting on Snooty daughter this Christmas. There is just nothing that compares to your "mother" when you feel so bad. Well except for your own Snooty. You know what I mean.

Love the new dress for the party. Gorgeous.

Okay... love the new dress. You could totally be Lana Turner. Mr. Snooty would make a great Frank Sinatra!

Have fun at your parties!

And wishing snooty daughter a good recovery. My middle had both of her feet de-bunioned so I'm aware of the amount of "waiting on" that happens with a daughter who can't put her foot to the floor!

Treasia: I'm so excited about wearing this dress! I got it on sale too, which always makes me happy.

AG: I had a bunionectomy about 15 years ago and they hurt! I think you're right about the Lana & Frank thing. That will be perfect & Mr. Snoots won't have to really wear a costume, lol.

That dress is beautiful! I love navy. And poor SD. I feel for her. Crutches are hard on the armpits, too. Something you don't realize until you have to have them. Sounds like your holidays are going to be merry and bright. And you house is all a-gleam;)

I hope you get to wear BOTH dresses! The navy dress is soooo elegant and I absolutely love the vintage dress with the fur cuffs. Yes, I think you could pull off a Lana Turner in that. How much fun!!

Sorry to hear that SD is hobblin' around. Ugh. Crutches suck - hope the Ortho can fix her up! We're leaving tomorrow for Kansas - hope you and yours have a Merry Christmas!!

Re: your comment about putting family and friends back on the friendly side...

I tried that. Talked to my brother about the hurt and brought stuff up, and he said he thought it was not good to re-visit the past. For me, like you, I think when there is tension, discord, all this needs to be talked about. I thought that maybe it was just a woman/man thing, but then I talked to his wife and she said the same thing. Just move on, she said. In my view, sweeping things under the carpet just doesn't work...

And p.s.: Thanks so much for all your advice, I was really down...:(

Anon: Even back when Mr. Snoots & his brothers were on the outs after an argument, I got together with my SIL & we eventually made ammends FOR THEM, lol. Things are still tense between them but at least they speak. (The argument was over ten years ago.) If she hadn't been as eager as I to help mend things, we would still be on the outs. I just don't understand that at all. There are just too many judgemental & selfish people in the world. Don't let it get you down, although I know how hard that can be. Just have a really fabulous Christmas without them!

Looking pretty hot SP ~ you'll knock 'em over with both those dresses! SO jealous ~ too damned cold here (both weather and neighbors) to get any kind of party going.
Have a fab time and don't forget that camera~!

Love the dress! Hubbie and I get a kick out of dressing in costume. Our 11-year-old daughter is not as amused anymore. She refused to join our "Indiana Jones" theme this year. She went her own independent way.

Hope SD's foot heals quickly. Thanks for the advice on the real life trolls. I usually don't let them get to me, but I have a weak moment every now and then. I did think this was hurtful to my kids and so my situation stung a bit more because of that.

New Year's resolution No. 1: Stay strong and don't let anyone mess with my only love besides my family: GOLF!

MERRY, MERRY, MERRY, MERRY! Thanks for a year of hearty laughs and wonderful stories!
