An Explanation Of Illegal Immigration.... I'm Speaking In Tongues Of Venom

First off let's look at the term *illegal immigration*, shall we? I think the phrase is self-explanatory but for those of you harboring some confusion the dictionary defines it as: #1. Forbidden by law or statute. #2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc. Now that we've established that, let's look at the word immigration (immigrate). The dictionary defines it as: #1. To enter and settle in a country which is not of one's origin and #2. To send or introduce as immigrants. Just in case this isn't simple enough to understand, I'll continue with said explanation.

I am in no way opposed to LEGAL immigration which includes a process of citizenship (it should also include that the immigrant be required to pass at the very least, a simple English speaking test). Frankly, if the immigrant is not a criminal, there is no reason why he or she would object to this. All immigrants should be subjected to a thorough background check. It's what we do in this country. You cannot even volunteer at a school in this state without a background check, so immigrants should be held to the same standards.

Until you have lived in a state that borders Mexico and have children that have attended public schools in said states, you have no idea of what you speak. As a matter of fact, you aren't even qualified to have an opinion. I was on the front lines of the schools for many years (in a volunteer capacity) and I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Even though my experience was over ten years ago, I assure you that the situation has not in any way rendered or healed itself. When there are non-English speaking kids in a school, who refuse to speak the language and don't want to be there, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Hello!

All schooling issues aside, the War of the Drug Cartels is now spilling over into my homeland and I'm not one bit happy about it. Has it spilled over into yours up there in the North/East? I don't think so. So don't give me your liberal BS about disagreeing with my statement about schools. You have absolutely no idea what you are speaking about . I do and I'll defend my stance to the end... as soon as I send all of the illegals up to your territory, to see how well you like dealing with all the unexpected problems they bring along with their illegal immigration. You people need to realize that this is a MAJOR EPIDEMIC in our country. The majority of illegals coming across the border are either bilked into paying large sums of money and then dumped to fend for themselves (where they must steal to survive) or they are desperate criminals fleeing prosecution. Most of the women who pay to come across the border are sold into prostitution and can never get out due to the amounts they supposedly *owe* for their crossing and most are under the age of 18. Pull your heads out people! You owe it to yourselves to be better informed about the very things you disagree with.

Protest the Oil Spill, or the fact that homeless people in this country are growing in numbers, or the fact that unemployment in this country (largely due to overseas outsourcing) is crazy, or the crime rate, or cancer, or a number of other reasons to raise up in arms. However, do not try and tell me illegal immigration IS NOT a problem in this country, because IT IS. I live on the front lines. So go find another soap box. This one is taken and I'm not sharing the forum.

Frankly, I could continue with more and add a horrendous amount of nightmare tales but I'm fairly certain it would fall on deaf ears. Our housekeeper of many years is from Mexico, as is the rest of her large family, but they are legal citizens who have bothered to embrace the language and laws of their adopted country. They also pay taxes and are good, solid citizens with really tight family bonds. This is a different story than 90% of those who steal across the border in the dark of night. You can believe the ever-lying media as you always have, but you would be totally ignorant to do so.

Get. A. Clue.

Don't make me verbally hurt you... Because I do have the means and I will. Hurt. You. Try. Me. Sometimes I get carried away with things I'm passionate about & say things in the heat of the moment that I don't really mean. I can hardly kill a fly. Really.

I totally agree with you. It's disgusting how so many people feel sorry for those "poor" illegals. How about a little sympathy and understanding for the border guards who are being attacked and abused on a daily basis. I have an idea. Everyone who has no problem with illegal immigration should be forced to provide room and board in their own home for those illegals.

Go snooty! I agree wholeheartedly. Don't get me wrong. It isn't that I don't like the Hispanic people, I just don't like illegals. Although I lived a bit farther away from the border than you do in Texas, I saw what you see. Daughter did her student teaching in one of the towns merged with Dallas. One of those illegals did nothing but heckle and threaten her to the point she was afraid to walk to her car after school. I now live in a rural farming community which has always been filled with farmers and their families. Now even our small towns are being invaded by illegals. I was aghast to see the 'press here for spanish' on the bank's ATM. No one seems to mind because we don't have a large population of illigals, just a few—now. No one understands they are like roaches, where you see one in the open, there are others waiting to come out of the hole. And my rant could go on....People! We have a problem!

I saw that comment from your last post too, you got um' good girl! Light a fire under you! I love "your north/east liberal BS" challenge. I'm from the northeast, but can't say I'm liberal.
We have enough news stories here in ATL to know the criminal aspect of illegal immigration. I agree with you totally on this. Texas and Arizona have every right to do what they have to do to get this under control.

We have a similar problem here with people from certain country taking over and refusing to speak either of our languages and bringing their own mafias over here etc etc. UGH some parts of Toronto have just been taken over, wiped out and trashed!

During my year as PTA President at the middle school my kids attended, I was often called upon to substitute in the most rowdy, undisciplined classrooms. I can't begin to tell you what it was like. There were never more than 2 or 3 white kids in the class & they took a lot of abuse. My own kids had things stolen from them, kicked, hit, hair pulled, etc. because they were not Latino. We only had one Latino mom on the PTA Board & she was constantly aghast at what went on at school. I was there nearly every day for two years & I saw it all. It got worse once they entered 9th grade, which is segregated from all other grades here. The gangs came into the picture and they didn't play well with others. That alone, distracted from anything positive being achieved in 9th grade. Kids were scared to look at anyone or ever speak their minds and that is just WRONG! Argh! I could go on, but I'm sick of talking about it now...

We have a major problem with folks from Kentucky immigrating to Ohio. I have roots in 'tucky so it's a tough call for me. (just trying to make you smile :o)

I have not lived it, but I do GET it. I love that you are willing to call things as they are, and not worry about saying what is PC.

But I love you even more for have a label entitled "PULL YOUR COLLECTIVE HEADS OUT OF YOUR COLLECTIVE ARSES." That says it all!

We have a large population of Hispanics in Seattle and my daughter complains about being paired with 3 Spanish speaking students in science who refuse to speak English, so I can relate.

It's tough because I'm against racial profiling and I feel that's what the Arizona law promotes, but I also know illegal immigration is a problem and needs to be addressed and handled.

Thanks for speaking out about it! It's always great to hear from someone who's living it.

I'm not sure if I really understand your stance. You are against this right? Kidding. On one hand, I know some very nice illegal immigrants. (I live in the midwest.) On the other hand, I agree with you. If you want to live and work here, you should become a citizen. Thanks for sharing your perspective from Texas. It was interesting to hear how this has affected a border state. SJB

We have quite a Hispanic population in this area. Quite a gang problem too including gangs with loyalties to other countries. The school district where I work must deal with 46 different languages. 23 languages were spoken at my daughter's college graduation two weeks ago.

I acknowledge that illegal immigration is an issue, but it is not one that is exclusive to Texas or only to states bordering Mexico. And any talk about changing requirements for language basics should be backed with a plan for enforcement as well.
